September 22, 2011 To fill the vacant Vice Chair/Chair Elect position, the Steering Committee appointed Jen Eidson.  With this shift in section leadership, the Newsletter Editor/Web Liaison position was then vacant and also needed to be filled.  The Steering Committee appointed Margaret Fraser to fulfill these section duties. The SAA Program Committee has extended the deadline for session proposals for next year’s annual meeting from October 3, 2011 to  October 11, 2011.    The deadline for pre-conference proposals to the Committee on Education also has been extended to October 11, 2011.  The deadline for seeking endorsement from RAO will also move to October 11, 2011.  We hope this extra time encourages a cornucopia of fabulous reference, access, and/or outreach sessions to spill forth.
September 14, 2011 Unfortunately, this week Howard Levin, Oral History Section Chair, stepped down from his position as Chair.  The Steering Committee asked Vice Chair/Chair Elect Doug Boyd if he would be willing to step into the Chair position one year earlier than normal.   Doug Boyd agreed to do this and will serve as Section Chair for the 2011-2012 term. The Technical Subcommittee for Encoded Archival Description (TS-EAD) issued a call for comments on the revision of EAD 2002 in October 2010.  The comment period ended on February 28, 2011.   One hundred and twenty-seven comments were received.  The submissions received during the comment period have been compiled into a spreadsheet and made available through the SAA standards portal EAD Revision page.
