Are you looking for ways to be more involved? Interested in the programs, grants, and awards the Society of American Archivists (SAA) Foundation provides? The SAA Foundation Board of Directors invites applications from individuals interested in serving as an Elected Director or as an Emerging Professional on the SAA Foundation Board of Directors.

Board of Directors (Elected) Positions

  • Three (3) open positions.

Emerging Professional Board of Director (Elected) Positions

These positions are open to those who are students, new to the field, or early career (ex officio; with vote).

Emerging Professional positions are a way to build skills and knowledge in working collaboratively on a board to advance the mission and goals of an organization like the SAA Foundation.

  • Two (2) open positions
  • 1-year term, August 2025 to September 1, 2026; may apply for second term.

The SAA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, chartered in 2011, with a mission to support and enhance the work and welfare of the archival community in all its diversity, through research grants, scholarships, and recognition of excellence in the profession. The Foundation’s core work is to grow a reserve of funds that can support increasingly substantial efforts to improve the archives profession. The Foundation Board of Directors, composed of seventeen (17) members supported by SAA staff, believe strongly that the work of the SAA Foundation benefits all of us in the archival community, and they work continuously to expand its capacity.

The SAA Foundation's Governance Committee reviews applications and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors, which then puts forward nominations for approval by the SAA Council.

In January 2021 the SAA Council approved a requirement that applicants for all elected positions submit a diversity statement, as this helps SAA, its leaders, and its members to elect candidates who are best positioned to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in SAA, the profession, and beyond. It also encourages candidates to articulate the diversity they bring to their respective positions. This requirement applies to SAA Foundation Board positions.
