Preservation Section

The Preservation Section of the Society of American Archivists promotes the preservation of archives and manuscript collections managed by collecting repositories, including government, academic and cultural heritage institutions, in the United States. Our mission is to raise awareness of and disseminate information about the preservation of archival materials regardless of format. The Section offers access to its resources to the membership of the Preservation Section, the membership of the Society of American Archivists, and to anyone interested in preservation.

Preservation Section Program and Business Meeting 2018
We have a fantastic program planned for our annual business meeting on Wednesday, August 15, 4:00pm-5:15pm (no room number yet). Join us for a panel of case studies in disaster preparedness/recovery/response. Discussion will include how to identify vulnerability in your archives, funding resources, tools to take back home. Silent Auction

Please plan to stop by the Section's fundraising silent auction on Thursday and Friday and check out all the wonderful items your colleagues have donated! You can find it near the registration desk.

The silent auction benefits the National Disaster Recovery Fund for Archives (NDRFA). This fund was established in 2005 after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and is used to support the recovery of archival collections from major disasters, regardless of region or repository type. See more about the NDRFA.

Note: This year, we will be cash-free again as we will be using Square!

Donation drop-off (Auction table by registration desk):
  • Wednesday August 15th 6-6:30 pm 
  • Thursday August 16th 7:30-9:00 am
Auction open! 
  • Thursday August 16th 9am-5:30 pm
  • Friday August 17th 9 am-3:30 pm
    • FINAL BIDS due before 3:30 pm.
    • We will be contacting winners starting at 3:30 pm. Winners must respond to text messages by 4:30 pm after which will move on to next highest bidder.
    • Pick-up and pay: 3:30-5:00 pm
