Call for Volunteers - SAA Preservation Section Special Election 2024

The SAA Preservation Section is asking for volunteers interested in the position of Member-at-Large to self-nominate for a special election!

This individual would serve on the SAA Preservation Section Steering Committee as a Member-at-Large and, once elected, be appointed as the Education Chair for a 2 year term (2024 - 2026) by the Preservation Section Chair.

If you are interested in nominating yourself, or would like to nominate someone else, please send the name and a 4 or 5 sentence statement of interest/professional bio to Kim Hoffman (khoffman@hamilton.edu) by Friday, February 9th, 2024.

Members-at-Large are elected by the Section memberships through a balloting process. They will serve two years in staggered terms and serve on the Steering Committee alongside the elected officers (Chair, Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, and the Immediate Past Chair). Members-at-Large can be appointed as Committee Chairs by the Section Chair and these appointments can be renewed for a second term.

The Steering Committee meets via Zoom once a month, with other business conducted by email. Attendance at the SAA Annual Meeting is not required.

The responsibilities of the Steering Committee members and the Committee Chairs are outlined in the SAA Preservation Section Standing Rules. Please refer to them before self-nominating.

The Education Chair is an appointed position on the Steering Committee and is specifically charged with developing educational initiatives (such as workshops) to meet the needs of SAA members, especially those of the Preservation Section members. Additional duties include:

  • Maintain ongoing awareness of members’ educational needs, including the use (when warranted) of formal assessment tools.

  • Solicit ideas and involvement of other Section members.

  • Communicate educational needs to SAA staff.

  • Recommend workshops and pre-conferences for SAA sponsorship, including those not held at the annual meeting.

  • Collaborate with the Section's Program Committee on annual program theme.

  • Submit pertinent information to the chair of the Outreach/Communications Committee, for timely inclusion on the section's website.

Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the commitments for this position, the work of the section leadership, or the nomination process.
