Preservation Section Leadership: Call for Vice-Chair/Chair Elect & Member-At-Large

We are seeking candidates for two positions:

  •   Vice-Chair/Chair Elect 
  •   Member-At-Large

The work: Section projects include planning programming for the annual meeting, designing fundraisers benefiting the National Disaster Recovery Fund for Archives, fun outreach projects like the Agents of Deterioration bookmarks, and the #PresTC twitter conferences.

The Steering Committee meets by phone/Zoom once a month, with other business conducted by email. Attendance at the annual meeting is not required. Current officers and steering committee members are listed here.

Not interested in a leadership position, but still want to get involved? Volunteer for any of the standing committees by sending a note to the same address! 

Position descriptions: 

Member-At-Large, advise and support the work of the section as a member of the Steering Committee. Serve on standing committees, as appropriate.

Vice-Chair/Chair Elect* - For one year you will serve as the Vice-Chair; the following year you will serve as the Chair.

  •   Assist the Chair in carrying out the work of the section.
  • Preside over the section meeting at the SAA Annual Meeting in the absence of the Chair.
  • Prepare minutes of the section business meeting and steering committee meetings, and submit these to the Communications Committee Chair for dissemination or publication, after review by the Chair.

*The responsibilities of the Chair should also be considered if you would like to run for Vice-Chair:

  • Appoint committee chairs, and appoint committee members in consultation with the committee chairs.
  • Monitor the work of the Section's committees.
  • Provide material for dissemination to the membership, including regular columns and progress reports.
  • Collaborate with the steering committee to ensure that the section's three-year plan is updated, as required by SAA, and monitor ongoing progress toward meeting the section's goals and objectives
  • Convene the steering committee annually; collaborate and consult with the steering committee at other times to forward the work of the section and its committees
  • Preside over the section business meeting at the SAA Annual Meeting.
  • In collaboration with the section Program Chair, develop a program for the section business meeting, including speakers on a topic approved by the steering committee.
  • In conjunction with the Vice Chair/Chair Elect, and the steering committee, provide final written approval for new section projects and the dissemination of project-related publications, reports, and other products.
  • Serve on the Preservation Awards Subcommittee of the Society of American Archivists Awards Committee.
  • In collaboration with the officers and steering committee, review the Preservation Section Standing Rules every two years.
