BASQ Call for Submissions - Archival Theory & Business Reality

Regardless of what institution we work for, we all have the shared experience of archives education. Those long days (and nights) of studying archival theory and principles. What most of us found, however, is that when we started our career in business archives, we had to adapt what we’d learned to the needs of our particular organization. The realities of the corporate world, more often than not, require us to take our knowledge of archival best practices and customize solutions that fit our business’s specific needs. We’ll take a look at this topic in the next edition of the BASQ.

How do you deal with the conflicts between archival theory and business reality? Topics could include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategies for processing new materials
  • Systems of arrangement in your collections
  • Workflows/procedures for fulfilling requests, particularly research
  • Business-specific terminology and custom vocabularies
  • Policies for loans, restricted materials, etc.
  • Access to digital archival materials in enterprise systems, like DAM

We are ideally looking for articles between 500 and 1,000 words in length, but are more than happy to work with you as you develop your idea! Please reach out to bascontent@gmail.com to discuss - even if you're just thinking about submitting, we'd love to connect.

The deadline for these articles is December 13, 2019. Thank you, and we hope to hear from you!
