Dear All, Happy 2015! As is traditional in January, I'm soliciting contributions to this year’s issue of Archival Elements, the Science, Technology, and Health Care Roundtable newsletter. I’m looking for both short contributions (1-2 double-spaced pages) and longer articles (four to six double-spaced pages, ca. 1500 words) on topics related to collections, exhibits, and management of scientific, medical, and technical collections. The newsletter’s scope is flexible: we’ve had articles on...
In the November/December "Archival Outlook" (see "A Call to Action: The Cultural Heritage Working Group Seeks Your Input," page 11) we highlight the recent work of the CHWG and encourage all members to take a brief survey to gather baseline data about your largest concerns and needs regarding cultural heritage archives to determine new initiatives and projects. UPDATE: Due to other SAA surveys underway, the CHWG survey has been postponed to Fall 2015. The link to the survey will be included...

TS-EAD has been working hard to complete the development of EAD3.  The core schema was redesigned this fall to support the creation of derivative forms, including Relax NG, XSD, and DTD versions, along with undeprecated versions of each.  Many bugs were squashed along the way as well.  The stable development version of the schema can be found at https://github.com/SAA-SDT/EAD-Revision/tree/develop.   Currently we are focused on developing the migration style sheet and finalizing the tag library...

Vice Chair/Chair Elect Candidate Statements Roxanne Dunn I am currently employed as the Special Collections and Archives Librarian at Southeast Missouri State University. Having recently been elected to serve on SNAP's steering committee, I have enjoyed the limited time I have worked "behind the scenes" with SNAP and feel I can step up to help lead our RT. I have gained much experience during my first year of employment and I feel that will translate well to assist others with job hunting...

As archivists and special collections librarians, we are becoming increasingly mindful of the need to gather, analyze, and share evidence concerning the effectiveness of the operations we manage and the impact of the services we provide. Yet the absence of commonly accepted statistical measures greatly impedes our ability to conduct meaningful assessment initiatives and the evaluation and establishment of best practices. Recognition of this two-pronged challenge has manifested itself in a...

Serving in a leadership role on the Roundtable is a wonderful way to become more involved with SNAP and SAA and get to know other archivists. Our proposed SNAP bylaws require, to ensure adequate student representation in SNAP leadership, that at least two candidates on the slate must be students at the time of the election. In order to hold a position as an officer and/or member of the Steering Committee, you must be both a member of SAA and the SNAP Roundtable. The term for each office is one...

RAAC Annual General Meeting minutes from August 13, 2014 are available online at: Meeting minutes
At the annual meeting, Frank Boles of SAA's Committee on Archives and Public Policy (CAPP) led a discussion before the roundtable on the archival implications of the NSA mass surveillance. The undated draft document produced by CAPP outlines a possible reponse by SAA to issues raised by this controversy. It is based on a memo from April 2014 by the leadership of the P & C and Issues & Advocacy Roundtables. Both documents are available here.
