Emily Ward

As digital archivist for the East Baton Rouge Parish Library (EBRPL), I am involved in many different types of digital initiatives. Nearest and dearest to my heart has been the creation of a web archive that captures content created by the East Baton Rouge Parish community. I began archiving the web for EBRPL in 2016, and more recently, EBRPL was selected as a participant in the Community Webs project led by the Internet Archive. My interest in web archiving has evolved since joining Community Webs to focus on the development of strategies to encourage community involvement in the creation and curation of our web collections, as well as educating the public on how to use archived web content for their historical research. I see the Web Archiving Section as both a valuable resource for practitioners, and also as an engine for standards development for web archives. As vice chair/chair-elect, I would work with Section leadership to provide resources and educational opportunities that promote inclusive collection practices and cater to all types of web archiving practitioners whether they be from public libraries, academic libraries, or private sector organizations. I would love the opportunity to further the great work this section has already produced. Thank you for considering me for this position.

Tammi Kim

I am currently a Technical Services Librarian for Special Collections and Archives at UNLV where I am responsible for accessioning, web archiving, and managing the University Archives. In my role at UNLV, I manage web archive collections that complement our collecting areas include the University Archives, gaming, and local communities. I previously held positions at the University of Georgia and at the University of Delaware. At the University of Delaware I helped manage the web archive program and established workflows and guidelines for managing web crawls and creating descriptive metadata. In addition to being a member of SAA, I am also involved with the Conference of Inter-Mountain Archivists and the Society of California Archivists. I am passionate about growing the web archiving program at UNLV and educating users on the use of web archives as digital primary resources. I am interested in becoming more involved with the Web Archiving Section and contributing to the excellent work that the group has already been doing. Thank you for your consideration.

Marlayna Christensen

I’m Marlayna Christensen and the University Archivist at UC San Diego. One of my goals is to develop an archive where our students, staff, and faculty can find themselves in the campus’s history through the records of their organization, college, department, club, or team. Capturing the web presence is critical to rounding out information that is gathered in print. Web pages and social media are sometimes the only record produced by the group. I’m still learning how to improve on the process between selection and preservation. I’d like to serve as the secretary for this section because I want to get involved! I’m still relatively new to the archive world and have plenty to learn, but I know how to participate on committees, take notes, and help things move forward. I’m a good communicator, put ideas together in new ways, comfortable with technology, and love to try new things. I would love to serve as the next secretary for the Web Archiving Section.

Kelsey O’Connell

As the Digital Archivist at Northwestern University, I manage the ingest, appraisal, accessioning, arrangement, description, and accessibility of born-digital archival collections, including web content, for 5 different special libraries. My vision for web archiving is twofold: ensuring web content that is part of an archival collection is tied intellectually to that fonds, and proactively curating websites identified as significant by subject specialists as vital for preserving cultural heritage. I broadly advocate for researchers’ aids to increase their understanding of web archives and enhanced discoverability. Additionally, I believe it will be important for archivists to explore cross-institutional collaboration to archive curatorial web content in order to reduce duplicate efforts and save data budgets. As secretary of this section, I hope to provide transparency for our members by ensuring our meeting minutes and related documentation are shared. Additionally, I will ensure that our documentation process is established in such a way that organizing and sharing documentation can continue easily after my term. My innate organization will keep our meetings prepped for efficiency and on task. As a member of the steering committee, I will promote that we approach web archiving advocacy, peer training, and education with a focus on inclusion. I will also advocate that the Section encourages SAA’s Standards Committee to begin work on best practices and/or guidelines for Web Archives, building upon related work such as the OCLC’s recommendations for Descriptive Metadata for Web Archiving.

Julia Corrin

I currently hold the position of University Archivist at Carnegie Mellon University where I oversee our physical and digital collections, in addition to being in charge of our growing web archiving program. I am also current chair of the Lone Arrangers Section, and next year will be serving as chair of our newly formed Education Subcommittee. I’ve also just been appointed to SAA's Education Committee (so serving as liaison would be quite convenient!!). I am particularly interested in serving as the Education Coordination because of the work the Lone Arrangers have done in the past year to develop low cost trainings for archivists with little funding. I'd like to continue this work in the Web Archiving Section, ideally with an emphasis on virtual learning opportunities with options for multiple experience levels. As an ex-Lone Arranger, I believe that training and education should be easier to access and have options for all skill levels. I also think that the section’s current membership has a great deal to offer in this area.

Jessica Chapel

I'm an archives student in the Simmons SLIS program, graduating with my MS in January 2019, and the SAA 2017-2018 publications board intern. Before starting at Simmons, I worked as a web developer, editor, and digital producer for publications such as the Atlantic, American Prospect, and Daily Racing Form. I come to archives, and web archiving, as an experienced digital media professional keenly aware of the importance of preserving web resources and records. I believe there is tremendous potential in collaborating with online creators and communities and in advocating for the value and practices of web archiving, and I look forward to serving this committee if selected as communications manager.

Elisa Landaverde

My name is Elisa Landaverde, I am a Metadata Librarian at Michigan State University Libraries where I work on creation and transformation of metadata for digital collections, and different projects for Special Collections. I earned my MLIS from Drexel University (2012), and have a BA in East Asian Studies from Bryn Mawr College (2010). As a Metadata Librarian my focus is on digital collections, as well as a variety projects for Special Collections. One of those projects involves managing our newly acquired Archive-It account for Special Collections. I am relatively new to Web Archiving, but I see it as part of a long-term project. The reason for joining the Web Archiving Section of SAA is because most of our capturing involves material directly related or as part our manuscript and collections. As I move forward in my profession I would like to actively participate within the web archiving community, and joining the Steering Committee for this section will allow me to both learn and contribute to the profession.

Louise LoBello

As a young archival professional and forever student, I am excited about the opportunity to be the Web Archiving Section’s 2018 Student Liason. I am a second year Master of Information student at Rutgers University concentrating in Archives and Preservation. I have a background in art history, anthropology, and cultural heritage which led me to pursue an MI and archives. This summer I will be interning at Bell Labs Archives, working with their collection of multimedia records and artifacts, many of which are digital and web-based. Web Archiving has always interested me as more and more of my interactions and relationships are proliferated through digital platforms and the Web. I have been particularly interested in the questions of security and preservation that come with archiving personal pages and accounts generated through social media as well as digital artist works. I have always been involved in a variety of clubs, specifically serving as President of the Rutgers Art History Student Association during my undergrad and currently being a member of SOURCE, an official student chapter of SAA based at Rutgers. I am also a member of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC). As a student member of the Web Archiving section of SAA I would have connections with a broader community of student archivists to bring into the group as well as learn what it means to be a part of a specialized professional network.
