Join the Web Archiving Section for a discussion of rapid response resources

Attending Archives/Records 2018 in Washington, DC? Please join SAA’s Web Archiving Section at 4PM on Wednesday, August 15, for our annual meeting, where we will discuss the resources available to you when web archiving needs arise rapidly in communities, government repositories, on campus, and elsewhere. Watch this space and add our meeting to you Sched calendar for room assignment updates: http://sched.co/ESnD

After section business, we will hear from some very special guests: Rachel Bergman (Director of Programs, Web Integrity Project), will introduce us to the Sunlight Foundation’s new “Web Integrity Project” and their first year of monitoring and reporting on tumultuous change to government information made available via the web; Tammi Kim (Special Collections & Archives Technical Services Librarian, UNLV University Libraries) will share lessons learned from integrating web archiving into the collaborative Remembering 1 October response effort in and around Las Vegas; and Lae’l Hughes-Watkins (University Archivist & Assistant Professor, Kent State University) will introduce the methodology that she and “Project STAND” collaborators have devised towards making appraisal decisions and plans for all manner of born-digital media and collaboratively with campus communities. With these insights and recommendations we will workshop our own rapid response web archiving plans and policies for scenarios that we may face in the coming year.

We look forward to seeing you there, digging into the rich details of your needs with Section members and speakers, and providing more resources in the year to come!
