"Performance in the Archives" [Virtual Coffee Table Discussion"
April 29, 2022, 3:00 pm EDT/2:00 pm CDT/12:00 pm PDT, via Zoom
SAA's Performing Arts Section (PAS) invites SAA members, affiliates, colleagues, and friends to a discussion about the encounters, interactions, and mutual influences between the world of archives and performing arts. The panel features Lynn Garafola, Professor Emerita of Dance, Barnard College, Columbia University; Zachary Whittenburg, dance journalist and Arts Program Officer at the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation; Lela J. Sewell-Williams, archivist and the Curator of Manuscript Division at Howard University's Moorland-Spingarn Research Center; Jennie Scholick, Director of Education and Training of the San Francisco Ballet; and it is moderated by Dr. Kathy Carbone, former dancer, archivist, and Lecturer at UCLA's Department of Information Studies. The panelists will discuss hiring and working in performing arts archives or with archival collections, training archivists in performing arts archives, and the role of archives in the performing arts world.
We hope that the discussion will be of interest to GLAM professionals within and outside of performing arts archives whose work requires special training and knowledge.
