March 7, 2022—The Society of American Archivists stands in solidarity with our Ukrainian and Russian archival colleagues; we recognize that the unprovoked invasion by Russia has great impact on their personal lives and their work. SAA unites with people and organizations of conscience from around the world in denouncing the aggression by Russia, which has since resulted in lives lost, the displacing of millions of Ukrainians from their homes, and destruction to land and property.

February 24, 2022—At its February 2022 virtual meeting, the SAA Council:
SAA member Gabrielle M. Dudley was confirmed by the US Senate on February 17 to serve on the Civil Rights Cold Case Review Board. Dudley, Instruction Archivist at the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library at Emory University, was recommended by SAA and nominated by President Biden in June 2021.
February 15, 2022—SAA has endorsed a statement prepared by the Council of State Archivists (CoSA) regarding the essential characteristics of the Archivist of the United States, in light of David S. Ferriero announcing his retirement this spring. As the primary organization representing the custodians of state records, CoSA is obligated to articulate its expectations for the role and relationship between the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and the various state and territorial archives.
