2011 Women Archivists Roundtable Minutes, Chicago

The Women's Archivists Roundtable met Wednesday, August 24, 2011, the SAA Annual Conference in Chicago. Approximately 18 members attended.

Rosalye Settles reported on Council matters, and Terry Baxter was introduced as the new Council liasiion.

Election results were reported. Mona Vance of Columbus-Lowndes Public Library in Columbus, Mississippi, was elected to fill the vacant co-chair seat. She will serve a two-year term.

Kim Schroeder, corporate archivist and adjunct faculty at Wayne State University, and LaNesha DeBardelaben, archivist at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, gave excellent presentations on issues of identity and mentoring in the workplace. Kim's presentation, "Women Archivists and Image in a Corporate Archives -- How to Outreach," and LaNesha's "Pay Discrimination and the Importance of Mentoring and Networking," have been attached to these minutes.

Out of the discussion came ideas for proposals centering on workshops or presentations for leadership and mentoring. We are looking for more ideas on this, either for a program for WAR or for a session.

Thank you to all who attended. We look forward to hearing from you during the year and seeing you next year in San Diego.
