International Archival Affairs Section

International Archival Affairs Section (IAAS) identifies and addresses issues and concerns of archives and archivists throughout the world; provides a forum for discussion, dissemination and promotion of issues related to international archival affairs. Below are our current virtual programs open to the public and any member of SAA.

Archival Landscapes virtual seminar series began in 2020. In each seminar, an international guest speaker introduces participants to the issues and advancements in their local context, describing the history, operating environment and unique aspects of archival practice in their country.

Register now for the first 2025-2026 IAAS Archival Landscapes seminar with archivist and institutional communicator Estelle OBE ZOGHESSIE from Gabon. She has over 15 years of archival experience, from Head of the Private Archives Department at the National Archives of Gabon to a Cabinet Attaché to the President of Gabon. She regularly collaborates with private service providers in the field of archives and teaches part-time at several universities in her country.

Archival Vistas Briefings virtual program series began in 2023 and discusses a topic or theme of international focus. The theme for 2024-2025 is archival standards and how we experience and use them. In each seminar, an international guest speaker(s) introduces attendees to how they have interacted with a particular standard, and shares their aspirations, implementation, and development experience with the standard.

Announcement of new Member-at-Large: Elaine Akin!
To replace IAAS Member-at-Large, Jenifer Monger, who was recently elected Junior Co-Chair, we are having a special election. Ballots open Monday, September 29. Candidate statements now available.
The Society of American Archivists Council will honor the International Archival Affairs Section for its vital outreach role in expanding the mutual awareness between SAA membership and international archives and archivists and for their innovative and dedicated programming efforts.
Chloe Inoue is pursuing an MSLIS with a certificate in advanced archives at Pratt Institute and will join the SAA annual meeting in Anaheim this year.

Trivette has led a multitude of workshops and forged a vibrant online presence for the IAAS as senior co-chair (2024–2025). As IAAS junior co-chair (2023–2024), Trivette created Archival Vistas Briefings, a video series that discusses topics or themes of archives internationally.
Dora Alicia Palomo Villanueva and Laura Yturbe Mori share a historical overview of the Archivo General de la Nación del Perú, emphasizing the foundational role of Guillermo Durand in the organization of the national archival system.
