History: The Archives Committee was founded by the City of Edmonton in 1938. By 1971 the collection was large enough to warrant establishing the City of Edmonton Archives as the official repository for civic government records.

Collection Growth: The City of Edmonton Archives collects material that relates directly to the history of the City of Edmonton only.

Access and Use
What are the requirements for using the organization's/institution's material? Visitors must sign in and leave all materials in the lockers provided. The reference archivist will assist patrons in finding relevance material. All material must be viewed in the reference room, and when required, gloves are to be worn when handling the material.
Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:30-4:30pm, Wednesday: 8:30am-8pm, and closed statutory and civic holidays.
