Society of American Archivists

Lesbian and Gay Archives Section (LAGAS)

26 July, 2017, 2:30p-3:45p

Oregon Convention Center

BUSINESS MEETING, 2:30-2:45p

Ongoing Business:

Introduction and business meeting, opened by outgoing chair (Lisa Calahan)

Standing Rules membership approval:

Membership voted to pass our Section’s Standing Rules. Two of the major changes include changing the section name to Diverse Sexuality and Gender Section with the most votes at just over 29%. And removing the gender stipulation for co-chair nominations. Both of these changes were put forth in efforts to broaden the scope of the the inclusivity of participation in our section’s  governance and to make it clear that leadership positions for this group are not limited the enforcement of gender binary classification.

In order for these changes to go into effect, we will need to submit a report to SAA council, who will then need to approve all changes. We will be submitting the report immediately after the Annual meeting for a special review by the Council.

New section name, Diverse Sexuality and Gender Section (DSGS)

Passage of Standing Rules changes

New co-chair introduction: Nikki Thomas

Nikki is the Archivist for Collection Management at UNC Charlotte and At UNC Charlotte.

Diversity Committee Report

Had to miss the Diversity Committee meeting because a conflict with ArchivesSpace meeting.

Still difficult to make headway in participation of ongoing activities of which we as co-chairs come in and out of for one year. Would suggest that current co-chairs investigate how to create better consistency because involvement is key for making sure LGBTQ issues are addressed as part of the umbrella of diversity work of the committee.
