The SAA Accessibility & Disability Section (ADS) is committed to being an inclusive community in which people with disabilities and their allies can learn from each other, share resources, and promote accessibility and disability representation across the archival field.
Founded in 2019, we have accomplished much in a short time. Most notably, we were honored by a 2020 SAA Council Resolution for launching the Archivists at Home document in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we maintain the SAA Guidelines for Accessible Archives for People with Disabilities. We have authored articles on hiring and retaining Disabled archivists, and two former Steering Committee members edited the book Preserving Disability. We held an annual event recognizing National Disability Employment Awareness Month from 2021-2023, and we have held joint events with the Archivists and Archives of Color, Women Archivists, and User Experience Sections.
Do you have an accessibility- or disability-related project that you would like to share? Please consider contributing to our blog.
