Accessibility and Disability Section

Welcome to the Accessibility & Disability Section!

The SAA Accessibility & Disability Section (ADS) is committed to being an inclusive community in which people with disabilities and their allies can learn from each other, share resources, and promote accessibility and disability representation across the archival field.

Founded in 2019, we have accomplished a lot in a short time. Most notably, we were honored by a 2020 SAA Council Resolution for launching the Archivists at Home document in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have authored articles on hiring and retaining Disabled archivists, and we maintain (and are currently revising) the SAA Guidelines for Accessible Archives for People with Disabilities (two former Steering Committee members also edited the upcoming book Preserving Disability). We have held an annual event recognizing National Disability Employment Awareness Month since 2021, as well as joint events with the Archivists and Archives of Color and Women Archivists Sections.

Browse our microsite and blog to find resources on accessibility and directories of disability-related collections.

Do you have an accessibility- or disability-related project that you would like to share? Please consider contributing a post for our blog.
