Pam Hackbart-Dean

Pam Hackbart-Dean is Head and Professor of Special Collections & University Archives, as well as Interim Associate University Librarian at the University of Illinois Chicago. Previously she was Director of the Special Collections Research Center at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Head of Special Collections & Archives at Georgia State University and Director of the Southern Labor Archives, and assistant department head/processing archivist for the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Study at the University of Georgia.   

Since 1988, Pam has been an active member of the Society of American Archivists. She was a member of the SAA Council, served as Chair of the SAA Committee on Education, as well as chair of several sections and roundtables. Additionally, she is a Distinguished Fellow of the Society of American Archivists.  

Pam received her MA in history from the University of Connecticut with a certificate in archival management and public history, her BA in history from Hendrix College (Conway, AR) and is a graduate of the Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians from Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Archive Leadership Institute (NHPRC/Luther College). Additionally, she has conducted numerous workshops on arrangement and description, published articles, and co-authored How to Manage Processing in Archives and Special Collections (SAA, 2012).
