May 30, 2018—As a member of the Society of American Archivists, your thoughts and experiences are of the utmost importance in shaping the future of the profession and SAA.
You are invited to participate in one of our Market Research focus groups, taking place during the SAA Annual Meeting in Washington, DC on August 15, 2018.
May 24, 2018—At the urging of the Intellectual Property Working Group, the SAA Executive Committee agreed to sign on to a Library Copyright Alliance letter to Senator Ron Wyden, praising him for introducing the Accessibility for Curators, Creators, Educators, Scholars and Society Recordings Act ("ACCESS to Recordings Act").
At its May 7-9 meeting in Chicago, the SAA Council approved a budget for FY 2019 (July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019) of $2,845,973 in revenues and $2,855,020 in expenses, with a projected net loss of $9,047. The Council noted that although projection of a net loss is unusual for SAA, it is not of significant concern in this case because several proposed initiatives are flexible based on the outcome of market research. (Access the Council meeting agenda and materials here.)
The SAA Council seeks member comment on the Principles and Priorities for Continuously Improving the SAA Annual Meeting, a document that guides planning for the Society's annual conference. At its May 7-9, 2018, meeting, the Council made the revisions indicated by underline (additions) and strikethrough (deletions). The Council seeks member input on these changes as well as on any other aspect of the document.
