October 25, 2019—Citing the impact of climate crises and technological obsolescence on archival collections around the world, Bill Maher, SAA’s long-standing representative to the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights, asked delegates, “But how can archives, libraries, and museums preserve and protect knowledge in the face of floods, wildfires, and obsolescence when our hands are tied by exclusive rights?” His statement continues:

During my first semester of library school at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, I took my first archives course from Rick Pifer. Rick taught me a lot about being an archivist—in that class and by giving me a work-study job at the Wisconsin Historical Society.

September 25, 2019—The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) and the Society of American Archivists (SAA) have developed a new standard, Guidelines for Standardized Holdings Counts and Measures.
