The SAA Council Statements subcommittee was formed in 2025. It comprises select Council members, who are appointed by the SAA Executive Committee. The subcommittee considers opportunities for SAA to make position statements and works with the rest of Council, SAA component groups, and SAA staff to form and publicize statements.
The group is proactive and reactive: it proactively monitors current events to identify statement opportunities, and it receives requests from SAA members and others to make statements about particular topics.
If you would like to suggest that SAA make a statement please email any currently seated Council member. Please note that SAA will take a position, make a statement, or take other action only on issues that are related directly to archives and archival functions, according to SAA’s Criteria for Advocacy Statements.
