-Committee Meetings:
- Discussion: 2 meetings per month to accommodate people's schedules; feedback welcomed
- Discussion: 2 meetings per month are OK with Erinn, and works to accommodate all schedule/time zones.
-Check profile is set correctly in SAA Connect
- Discussion: SAA has asked us to use SAA Connect instead of G-Suite; make sure to see if your email is correct in the system.
- Discussion: Update SAA profiles to make sure all items are updated.
-Microsite updates:
- Follow PLASC on Twitter (X); social media in general?
- Discussion: Standing Rules are approved for our committee. We still need to update the Resources Page; specifically a web archiving page. Erinn will get that started. We should remove ourselves from Twitter, for many reasons but what sort of presence should we have—LinkedIn? BlueSky? Facebook? Instagram? Twitter is locking out accounts as well. NYPL is currently locked out. Disconnect felt between sections and among sections. There are several hundred in our section, but only 22 people voted in our last election. Do people want to be involved, or how far should we go to engage people? If we have a way to directly connect our events/info to the ‘In the Loop’ Newsletter. Erinn can reach out to SAA for a more strategic initiative. One training for section leaders in September and then left to your own devices.
- Discussion: https://www2.archivists.org/groups/public-library-archivesspecial-collec... is the microsite. Aimai updated it. Standing rules are new, passed after the referendum. Where do we want to send ppl regarding social media? What should our presence be? Should we just post to Archivists think tank? If and when we have time, we could promote items on Library Think Tank or on SAA. How do we better utilize SAA to promote events? Decided to remove PLASC’s twitter page.
-Minutes
- No complex outlines requested. Please try to use bullets (or if you must nest info, dashes)—not numbers, letters, etc. Avoid sub-nesting when possible. Aimai ends up formatting the notes by hand, so keeping it simple is important. Reviewed during 11/20 meeting.
-Blog
- “Meet the Committee member” posts in December—1 per week?
- Discussion: Submit a 3-5 sentence blurb discussing your background and why you’re on the committee, as well as a hi-res photo to Erinn by December 3
- Discussion: For all committee members…not just new folks. Reviewed notes from 11/15’s discussion.
- Post new content in January, March & May
- Discussion: Series? Erinn: Last year we did a series on Memory Labs. Think of some topics for guest-postings, or possible series. Aimai discussed some projects with Queens Memory Project, and another presentation on digital projects she’s done recently.
- Discussion: What topics should we do? Let’s bring topics to the next meeting. Random topics might be best. Will discuss ideas at next meeting.
-Coffee Chats
- Discussion: Late Spring, before Annual Section Meeting? Short session/Q & A with speaker. Maybe late April? Section meeting is in July.
- How do we pick topics? Is it voted on? We did a survey last year (on the Drive) Deaccessioning is a big topic of interest. Web Archiving Basic How-To’s last year grew organically out of conversations between sections. We can always do another survey… People respond well if we have a list, but we can have a write in option as well. Maybe we can send something out in early December. Send topic ideas to Erinn ASAP so she can create the survey.
- Discussion: Erinn went to a webinar on the Digital Trans-collective…information activism. What are alternatives to LOC? Reparative descriptive work…all possible Coffee Chats. Maybe ask in a survey what people’s weaknesses are and where they might need support. Maybe send out survey beginning of Jan 2025? 1 question and 1 open format response…? Catherine will wordsmith and send it back out to committee for feedback. Last year a discussion about adding web-archiving to website…Erinn will add that section soon.
