PLASC Meeting Minutes 2024 February 21

Public Library Archives & Special Collections Section Meeting

Minutes: 

Meeting began at 3:00 PM CST 

Present: Joanna, Catherine Oseas, Catherine Tremblay, Erinn Barnes, Charmaine Bonner, Biz Gallo 

Approve January 17, 2024 meeting minutes

Approved unanimously.

1)SAA Council Meeting held Feb. 5-6 

a. Agenda available online. Discussion items can be presented by sections.

b. Main item - prepare annual section report. Deadline is September.

2)Annual Section Meeting panel

a.Content - weeding, reappraisal and deaccessioning

- AAA asked for questions and discussions for a conversation in May.

- Maybe pivot from deaccessioning?

- Maybe cannibalize the relicura resources?

- Looking for resources on weeding genealogy collections

b.Format - discussion/open forum

- Pre submitted questions

- Leadership moderator

- 2 speakers/experts

c. Possible panelists

- Speaker idea - Joanna & team - creating guidelines for weeding a genealogy collection

- Speaker ideas - Head of SC for SFPL.

d. Marketing strategy - flyer

- Social media

- Blog

- PLASC meet up at SAA?

e. Request from Robert Elder to present for five minutes at the annual section meeting on the Letter/Diary Project (see email)

- Wanted to reach out to SAA. 

- Meeting with the Newberry library

                  - Looking to maybe digitize the diaries and the maybe host the actual diaries in a local public library model.

3)Partnering with Web Archives Section on program

a. Erin talked to their communications. Will discuss this week and let her know for a timeline? Hopefully by the end of the week. Looking positive for a pair up.

4)Blog

a. Get to Know PLASC - Charmaine - post in March

b. Get to Know PLASC - Biz- post by the end of the month

c. Menus from the archives

- Team will upload and NOT FORGET!

- Anyone interested in playing around with wordpress  and creating a blog post, please contact Joanna

d. Blog series on Memory Lab

- Linked to document with questions for memory lab people. 

- Catherine O can post questions to social to engage more participants
