COPP/COPA/PLASC advocacy meeting minutes

• Committee on Public Policy / Committee on Public Awareness 

• Birmingham PL crisis helped to launch these initiatives - focusing on government archives, launched group goals. More details can be found in the meeting minutes linked above.

• “Statement Concerning the Closing of Archives” (1990)

• SAA Advocacy Toolkit

Newsletter, Patricia Delara

• Patricia to work on the newsletter this week and will submit to the group for final approval. Fall issue will become Fall/Winter and newsletters will be released biannually (Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer) due to amount of submissions.

• Angela will work on a short write-up of the Society of Georgia Archivists meeting!

• Nothing new to report.

Website, Johanna Russ

• Nothing new to report, meeting minutes are all up on the website.

Survey Working Group, Catherine Oseas & Heather Lanctot

• New states represented since we sent out survey last month

• Closes this Friday (11/20) and can continue to spread the word until then especially in states that still do not have responses.

• Angela suggests to have a partnership/coalition of state level agencies to help distribute any future surveys. Can see this as a federal grant project into collecting specific data.

• NEXT STEPS: Will need to figure out how to analyze data after we close the survey! The Google Drive contains the survey responses from the first round of survey release in Excel format. 

  • Funding from SAA can be applied to help analyze survey responses (Paul?)

Professional Development Working Group - list of ideas and potential speakers

• Can be targeted for Spring/Summer of next year

PLASC-hosted informal member chats

• How can we create this space for members to chat with one another?

• Laura proposed she can come up with ideas or topics for discussion

• Angela will start a document for ideas for the steering committee to contribute to

• Heather - speakers that have spoken on same topics already 

  • Chat content aligns with (pre-recorded) webinar content, possibly as follow-up
