Meeting Minutes
Teleconference (WebEx)
May 21, 2019
In attendance: Lauren Algee, Patricia Delara, Suzanne Im, Heather Lanctot, Angela Stanley
Purpose of Meeting:
1. Elections
Candidate slate due to SAA on June 1, 2019
Lauren will post 05/24/2019 to PLASC listserv; the deadline is May 31st for submitting a nomination
Lauren encouraged posting to Georgia and California library association listservs as well
2. Twitter
PLASC Twitter is up @PubLibArchives; 106 followers to date
Lauren has set up a tweet deck to scour for material that is public library archives related
Lauren will trade off with Patricia on Twitter duty
Twitter will be used as a feed for content for the newsletter
3. Newsletter
Newsletter will be composed of PLASC-related activities, stories related to public library archives, resources of use to public library archives; will be created using a google template that will convert to PDF to send out to PLASC membership as an email attachment
Deadline for when the first newsletter will go out: June 1, 2019
Content to include: announce Twitter account, elevator pitch, bookmark, election call, SAA annual meeting
Angela suggested we could push out call for articles on each newsletter itself, microsite, and Twitter
Patricia and Heather will hash out and include editorial process for newsletter in Communications document
Patricia to pull material into the template; Heather will be newsletter editor;
4. Bookmark
Angela has template set up but is still adding text; wants to have some of elevator speech design inform the color and typography of bookmark to have a consistent look
Aims to have draft finished by end of this week
When complete, the committee can plug the bookmark through social media channels, newsletter
5. Microsite update
Suzanne will add elevator pitch and bookmark to PLASC microsite
6. PLASC Google Drive
Lauren has moved coordinating documents over from her end
Suzanne has moved meeting minutes over and updated the link to minutes on the microsite
Angela reminded everyone to change owner to PubLibArchives for all files
7. Annual meeting call
Extended to end of this week, 5/24/2019. Lauren has received one more submission since the extended call was sent out
Lauren has received Twitter inquiries about the call regarding the possibility of remote video presentations. Lauren responded that we would try to accommodate this type of submission
Mentioned the possibility of streaming presentations
Angela proposed having a Plan B; Lauren thinks Plan B would be having a section meeting to share what has been done by the Steering Committee this year; maybe follow it with the few lightning talks that are submitted
Lauren had the idea to reach out to Steven Robertson from Creating Local Linkages on his program re public librarians and primary sources; she can “pad it out” with information re LOC initiatives with public libraries
Angela suggested having the two presenters present longer than the lightning talk length
Heather suggested twitter streaming for the session
Angela wondered whether wifi can be supported with a lot of people logged on a live stream
6. PLASC Intern
Call for PLASC intern has posted along with the other calls for interns (deadline 05/15/2019).
Lauren has not heard any news from SAA regarding progress with recruitment.
