Join the 2024-25 PLASC Steering Committee!

The SAA Public Library Archives and Special Collections Section seeks members to serve in leadership positions for the next fiscal year, 2024-2025! Getting involved in PLASC leadership is a great way to engage in professional development and public service, and connect with colleagues throughout the United States.

Time commitment is approximately 3 hours/month, including attendance at a virtual monthly meeting. SAA Annual Meeting attendance is NOT required. An individual SAA membership is NOT required; the primary contact on an institutional SAA membership is eligible to serve on a steering committee.

Over the past year PLASC has been working to raise awareness of, and advocate for, the collections, staff, and work of public library archives and special collections. Some of our projects have included managing and updating microsite resources, writing and publishing to the section blog, and collaborating with other sections to create holistic programming.

Students, new professionals, and mid-career welcome! Open to all who value and advocate for historical collections.

  • Co-chair (2 year term, elected)
  • Secretary (1 year term, elected)

Testimonials

Being part of the PLASC section committee has been an enriching journey. Collaborating with dedicated professionals, I've contributed to discussions on driving progress in the field with a vibrant community of like-minded individuals. It's been a rewarding experience, and I have found camaraderie in a community that understands the specific challenges of  Public Library Archives and Special Collections. - Catherine Oseas

My tenure on PLASC was during COVID, and I ended up really looking forward to those zoom meetings with PLASC because they gave me a supportive outlet to talk about the wild times of being in a public library during a global pandemic. Our COVID experiences were usually quite different from those of our archivist colleagues at universities or in other settings, and this highlighted exactly why a group like PLASC exists: public library archivists truly have unique needs. That camaraderie and solidarity I found through PLASC during a particularly challenging world event made the work we did to bring resources to other archivists at public libraries that much more rewarding. - Johanna Russ
