Art and Archives: Bringing It All Together

Tara Laver, Senior Archivist
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

The exhibition "Origins: Collecting to Create the Nelson-Atkins" held August 2020-March 2021 brought together art and archives to explore the very beginnings of the Nelson-Atkins's art collection and the people behind it. The exhibit featured archival materials in a way seldom seen in an exhibition at the museum. Senior Archivist Tara Laver co-curated the show. Join her for an overview of the exhibit and how she worked with colleagues more accustomed to art exhibitions to incorporate photographs, letters, recordings, and other documents to help tell this early history. She'll also share lessons learned that attendees can use to make their own exhibits more effective.
