2022 Independent Archivists Section Elections

Here’s our slate of candidates and their information:

Vice Chair / Chair Elect:

(Select One)

William Coates
I work as a freelance archivist in Los Angeles and around the country, specializing in the collections of writers, artists, musicians, and filmmakers. I am completing 2 years service as an at-large member of the Independent Archivists Section steering committee.

Candidate Statement:

Throughout my term in the Chair positions, I would like to make the committee more active and available to Independent Archivists Section in the SAA community. I am also interested in reviving, developing, and expanding the resources page, as well as exploring other means and opportunities for outreach.

Steering Committee
(Members-at-Large; Class of 2025):

(select two)

Katy Kletinger

Katy Klettlinger has more than 20 years’ experience in a mixture of archival, government, public library, and non-profit organizations. Before joining LYRASIS in 2016, her roles included serving as a consultant for digitization, space planning, and strategic planning for the State Library of Ohio and creating and building an archival and digitization program as Records Manager and Archivist for Licking County Government in Ohio. Katy was the first library professional to be certified as a coach for the Community Heart and Soul strategic planning methodology in 2021. Katy incorporates biomimicry into her space planning consultancy to promote mental health and well-being and has a specialization in archival facility design. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s in Library and Information Science from Kent State University.

Candidate Statement:
After working as an archival professional and state library consultant, my career path has steered me to my new appointment as program leader for the consulting program at LYRASIS. Many colleagues have helped me in my career over the years, and I am excited to be able to pay it forward. I hope to do this by serving as a committee-at-large member for the Independent Archivist Section. Since many colleagues in this section perform solo work, I look forward to sharing and exchanging ideas in an open and welcoming community to strengthen our work. I also look forward to seeing how our section can collaborate with others to bring awareness to what we do and what we can provide. Overall, my goal as a newcomer to the group is to not only provide new perspectives to the group but to learn from all of you!

Nicole Font                     [No Photo}

Nicole Font, MA [she/her] is the Shelby White and Leon Levy processing archivist at the Center for Brooklyn History, Brooklyn Public Library. She is a recent graduate of the Archives and Public History MA program at New York University and previously held a project archivist position at the New-York Historical Society. She also serves as an ex-officio member of the Students and New Archives Professionals (SNAP) Section, where she contributes to the blog and manages the SNAP social media accounts.

Candidate Statement:
I’m interested in being part of this section because, as a new archives professional, I like the idea of developing skills outside of the traditional archives approach and learning from people who have used those non-traditional skills to help others. During my term, I’d like to work with the section to organize (virtual) programming and cultivate resources to help archivists, particularly those new to the field, utilize and develop skills outside of the traditional archival work experience.
