The Host Committee Welcomes You to Anaheim!
by Jeanette Berard and Susan Berumen
Founded in 1857 by German immigrants as a wine producing community, this “Home by the Santa Ana River” (Anaheim in German) became a tourist mecca known all over the world. All because of a man and a mouse.
2025 marks the first year that SAA will hold ARCHIVES*RECORDS in Anaheim, California. The Anaheim area has long been a popular destination, with multiple theme parks and attractions. In August, you can expect the weather to be warm to downright hot—on average from the upper 80s to the mid-90s—and as humid as Southern California ever gets. Nights still tend to be cool, mid-60s despite the daytime heat.
Although there are many nearby airports, the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) typically has the lowest fares if you are flying from outside of California. LAX is about 38 miles from Anaheim by car. Other airports nearby you may want to check out include:
Airport shuttles with routes to Anaheim exist for each of these airports, except Burbank. If you want to use a shuttle, we recommend booking ahead of time. Uber and Lyft operate out of all the airports, and city/county bus systems are available, but will be cumbersome with luggage.
Much of Southern California is challenging to navigate without a vehicle, so if you want to visit locations further out, you might want to consider a rental car. Please note that parking at the Hilton is $39.00/night.
Arguably the first thing that springs to mind when most people think of Anaheim is Disneyland. That theme park is located only a twenty-minute walk from the meeting hotel!
If you want to visit, the Anaheim Visitor Center has a link to information about Disney tickets.
There are plenty of nearby places to visit in Anaheim for those who don’t want to deal with a lot of traffic. There are concert venues, baseball games, and shopping. The 1919 Anaheim Packing House has been retrofitted and now has entertainment and numerous restaurant options. For getting around Anaheim without a car, the Anaheim Transportation Network is a great option. More information can be found on Visit Anaheim.
Nearby, walkable restaurants (1 mile or less) include:
W Katella Ave
Convention Way
S Harbor Blvd
If you’re looking for places to visit in Orange County that are a little further afield, there are many options:
