General call for volunteers for RAAC sub-committees

The Regional Archival Associations Consortium (RAAC) Subcommittees are looking for volunteers for their first projects!

Advocacy Subcommittee (Tessa Beers, New England Archivists, chair)  

Description: The role of the Advocacy Subcommittee for the Regional Archival Associations Consortium is to develop programs for local associations to advocate for archives and archivists in public forae. The committee will develop a plan for a broad-based archival advocacy program directed at resource allocators, policymakers, and other influencers. The aim of this subcommittee is to reach out to local groups to determine and share local advocacy methods and to compile them into a broad, shared resource, coordinating with SAA groups and establishing formal communication lines for getting advocacy assistance. The Advocacy subcommittee will work closely with the Public Awareness subcommittee to avoid duplication of effort where our stated goals overlap. 

Current Volunteer Opportunity: Survey RAAC membership to find out about their advocacy methods and needs. Develop projects based on these survey results.

Public Awareness Subcommittee (Vacant)  

Description: The mission of the Public Awareness Subcommittee is to develop programs and conduct activities that enable regional archival organizations to promote themselves. The subcommittee will assist Regional Archival Associations Consortium members in promoting their regionals at the local, state and national levels and will support the development and/or coordination of promotional and outreach programs and tools for regionals. The Public Awareness subcommittee will work closely with the Advocacy subcommittee to avoid duplication of effort where our stated goals overlap. 

Current Volunteer Opportunity: Conduct research on the regionals to find out more about the groups in order to connect like-regionals with one another and to publicize their work.

Education Subcommittee (Jennifer Brannock, Society of Mississippi Archivists, chair)  

Description: The Education Subcommittee of the Regional Archival Associations Consortium (RAAC) is charged with sharing information about educational efforts, encouraging collaboration and the sharing of resources. Some of the responsibilities of the subcommittee include: surveying the existing educational programs offered by RAAC members and exploring collaborative methods to promote professional development programs. 

Current Volunteer Opportunity: Survey RAAC members to get a sense of educational needs and current workshops with the goal of developing a platform to share powerpoints, handouts, and ideas.

Grant Development Subcommittee (Kristen Chinery, Michigan Archival Association, chair)  

Description: The mission of the Grant Development Subcommittee of the Regional Archival Consortium (RAAC) is to promote grant activities among its participants through collaboration and resource sharing. The subcommittee will explore a wide range of granting opportunities, including foundations, private sources, corporations, and government agencies; foster collaborative grant writing projects among RAAC participants; and assist participants in identifying appropriate grant funding sources. 

Current Volunteer Opportunity: Identify grant opportunities at the federal and regional level in order to create a resource on the RAAC website.

Disaster Planning and Recovery Subcommittee (Tim Hawkins, Society of Rocky Mountain Archivists, chair)  

Description: The RAAC Disaster Planning and Recovery Subcommittee will create online resources to facilitate rapid responses to emergency situations encountered by archival repositories. The Subcommittee will work with RAAC participants to provide a network of both regional and national resources that may be quickly and easily accessed. It will also recommend training exercises, such as local workshops and webinars, to aid in emergency preparedness. Current Volunteer Opportunity: Identify disaster planning and recovery resources in all regionals across the United States in order to categorize this information and put it on the RAAC website.
