Summer 2014: Notes from the Chair

Greetings,

I hope that I get to see you in a session or in passing at the CoSA/NAGARA/SAA joint annual meeting in Washington, D.C. on August 10-16. Thursday, August 14, is particularly full of programs related to the Oral History Section.

At 10-11 a.m. in the Marriott Salon 1 (Lobby Level), Lightning session (102) will include presenters discussing their organization provides access to oral history collections.  The title of the session is “Spreading the Word: Access to Oral History Collections in the Digital Age.”

At noon-1:15 p.m., join your colleagues for a (bring-your-own) brown bag lunch session in Washington, 3 (Exhibition Level of the Marriott Wardman Park).

At the poster session, 3-3:30 p.m. in the Marriott Foyer (Mezzanine Level), Kristi Young will have a poster session on the oral history of military wives.

The Oral History Section Business Meeting (plus presentations) will take place in Virginia AB (Lobby Level of the Marriott Wardman Park hotel) from 3:30-5:30 p.m. After the business meeting, representatives of the Library of Congress (American Folklife Center), Johns Hopkins University, and the U.S. Congress will present on their current projects.

Oral History Elections and Editorship of the Newsletter

I would like to thank Jen Eidson for coordinating the Oral History Section Elections. Congratulations to the incoming officers.

Another thanks to Jen Eidson for taking care of the section’s newsletter, Dialogue, when we did not have an editor. We now have an editor – Michael San Filippo – and Jen has been working hard showing him the work that is involved.

Projects for the Next Year
We hope that those of you who will be at the annual meeting will share in the discussion about a specific project or projects that you would like the section to focus on. You may also contact us about your idea(s): Cecilia Salvatore (csalvatore@dom.edu) or Bert Lyons (bertramlyons@hotmail.com).

Cordially,

Cecilia
