2026 OHS Elections: Referendum on Updates to Section Standing Rules

The Oral History Section Standing Rules were last updated in 2016. OHS Steering Committee practices have changed significantly over the last decade, and the Committee believes the Standing Rules should reflect those changes. The proposed changes do so in a way that is consistent with SAA Governance Manual Section IX.E.3.c.

Broadly speaking, the Committee’s updates to the Standing Rules:

  • Decrease the number of steering committee members from seven to six (three elected officers and three members at large) to reflect current practices.
  • Remove language about required additional committee roles and responsibilities (newsletter editor, program committee, and nominating committee).
  • Create a new "Goals and Objectives" section per SAA Governance Manual Section IX.B.1.
  • Otherwise generally modify language to reflect existing committee practices. Edit language for clarity and readability.

Voting runs from June 1 to June 15. Keep an eye out for election information from SAA staff.
