SAA Mentoring Program Subcommittee meeting minutes

Agenda

A.            Report to the Membership Committee.  Kate mentioned this report was presented at the membership meeting on August 18th.

B.            2015 Mentoring Program survey results

1. Brainstorm how to address concerns brought up in the survey.  In the membership report above, a review of the concerns were mentioned.  Next year, we should do two separate surveys, one for mentors and one for the protégés for better results.

  2. Also, as far as the process is concerned for the mentoring committee, it would be helpful to create another tab in the database for inactive participants.  Also, if there was an easier way to renew mentors, that would be helpful.

C.           ERS/Mentoring Program student poster mentoring initiative.  This was also in the report, which we will wait to discuss once we learn how the initial program turned out this year.

D.           Mid-career born digital mentoring proposal (Gabriela Redwine).  We didn’t really discuss this matter too much in-depth since we just got the proposal, but we will have a conference call later in the year to discuss this option.

E.            General thoughts on promoting/improving the program - one idea was to have an automated response to those that sign up so they know we have received their application.  Another thought was to do a follow-up with your matches 3 - 6 months after matching to see how it is going and if a change is needed.
