Minutes

1.

MZ - Review of each month assignments, it is a bit overwhelming at first, but once you get a month done, it’s not that time consuming. Questions about what to do, please contact: BennettJones, Orchard or Zaidman since they have all worked on it so far.

 Database assignments

2015: Sept & Oct - Michael Zaidman; Nov - Devhra BennettJones; Dec - Gabriela Redwine

2016: Jan - Alexandra Orchard; Feb - Jeremy Brett; Mar - Alexandra Orchard; Apr - Gabrielle Spiers; May - Jeremy Brett; June - Devhra BennettJones; July - Gabriela Redwine; Aug - Gabrielle Spiers.

2.

MZ - The Mentoring program survey needs to be updated; we need to create two separate surveys: one for mentors and one for protégés.  The surveys will be sent in January with the assistance of Matt Black at SAA.  Assigned task: BennettJones, Brett and Redwine.  Zaidman will send password info for Surveymonkey to all three assigned.

3.

MZ -  Heard from Matt Black and all three new members should have complete access.  Just check later today if you do and if you don’t please reach out to Black at mblack@archivists.org.

4.

MZ - One suggestion from a renewing mentor was to create a Facebook page for Q&A.  This would give participants a slightly better understanding of what is expected.  Perhaps a Top 10 List for mentors or protégés to think about during their commitment. Or create a Q&A or a toolkit on the mentoring subcommittee microsite page. Assigned task: Spiers & Spring.  To launch in January during Mentoring month.

5.

GS – Article for Holly Croft, SNAP Roundtable blog coordinator requested a post for the SNAP blog regarding the mentoring program – what it’s all about, how to apply, success stories, etc.  Blog should be 800-1500 words.  Mentoring committee member, Gabrielle Spiers is working on the post to release in October.

6.

January is mentoring month!  Create a blurb to send the first week in 2016 (like 2015).  Assigned task: Orchard.  Also to assign group members various regional groups, roundtables, groups to send out note.

7.

GR - ERS/Mentoring program student poster mentoring initiative; mid career born digital mentoring proposal for mid and later career archivists, people that have been in the profession for awhile and this proposal is aimed at those professionals to implement over the course of a few years, vary in size, funding, etc., general enough so all organizations can take it and make it their own for launch at SAA 2017.  Redwine will share the revised version to the group via the listserv; timeline will be included.

-

ERS initiative started at SAA student posters this year 2015, shared interests to connect personal connections to be successful and sustained; professional interaction was the goal/target.

-

Both ideas, mentoring relationships are really important, pushing the boundaries of what works.

-

E-harmony approach to connecting mentors and protégés, perhaps creating a better mentor application for matches is what the focus should be instead.

Meeting adjourned 3:27 pm. Minutes by Zaidman.
