An Open Letter in Solidarity with Black Library Workers of the Free Library of Philadelphia (Archives for Black Lives in Philadelphia)

Archives for Black Lives in Philadelphia (A4BLiP), formed in 2016, is a loose association that now includes 80+ archivists, librarians, and information professionals in the Delaware Valley concerned about the issues raised by the Black Lives Matter movement and interested in finding ways to react and engage as community members and as archival professionals.

A4BLiP has watched with alarm as Black library workers at the Free Library of Philadelphia (FLP) have surfaced significant complaints, astonishing in both number and magnitude, in open letters issued by the Concerned Black Workers of the Free Library of Philadelphia (CBWFLP) – Concerned Black Workers of the Free Library of Philadelphia Open Letter and Concerned Black Workers Response to D&I/FLP Board – and on Instagram. More anecdotes and examples have appeared in a proliferation of news articles on the topic.
