DAS Subcommittee Member Opportunities and Expectations

DAS Subcommittee purpose: A subcommittee of SAA’s Committee on Education, the DAS Subcommittee is responsible for overseeing and updating courses, exams, core competencies, learning outcomes, and other aspects of the DAS curriculum. See the SAA Governance Manual and DAS microsite for more about the DAS Subcommittee's responsibilities and activities.

If you have questions about the DAS program or the DAS Subcommittee, please feel free to contact SAA Education education@archivists.org or reach out to a member of the current leadership team.

Member selection: The subcommittee welcomes a mix of practicing archivists with e-records/digital experience or knowledge, teaching experience, technical skills, and administrative or supervisory experience. All subcommittee members must be members of SAA. A DAS Certificate is preferred.

Member expectations: Subcommittee members serve a four-year term and attend monthly meetings and an annual retreat (all virtual; no travel or in-person meetings required). They assist in auditing and reviewing courses, and contribute to working groups and special projects, working in collaboration with other subcommittee members, course instructors, and SAA staff. Members typically spend an average of four to five hours per month on DAS Subcommittee work.

Member benefits: Subcommittee members have the opportunity to further develop their digital archives knowledge through their work on the subcommittee, network with other archives professionals, and also have the opportunity to grow into a leadership role as subcommittee vice chair, chair, and past chair. Outgoing subcommittee members will be granted a two-year grace period on their DAS Certificate to allow adequate time for the necessary requirements to maintain and renew their certificate.

Member constraints: Subcommittee members may not sit for the DAS Comprehensive Exam during their term on the subcommittee and must wait at least two years after their term ends to sit for the exam. Courses for which a subcommittee member serves as a course liaison may not apply toward the DAS certificate or renewal. Members sign an NDA upon joining the subcommittee and are required maintain confidentiality of information available to subcommittee members.
