There are four subcommittees that consist of (at minimum) a Subcommittee Chair and two Subcommittee Members:
Awards for Contributions to the Archives Profession
Awards for Writing and Publishing
Travel Awards and Student Scholarships
Awards Selected by SAA Fellows
Each Subcommittee will have one new appointed member each year who will serve a three-year term, their third year serving as Chair of that subcommittee.
Awards Committee Co-Chairs are appointed in two-year terms, the first year serving as Junior Co-Chair and the second year serving as Senior Co-Chair.
The Awards Committee Co-Chairs and Subcommittee Chairs will meet regularly throughout the awards season to maintain frequent communication, solve problems, liaison with each other, and discuss any issues or challenges as needed.
In some cases, additional members may be invited to participate in Subcommittees on a volunteer basis as representatives of certain sections or affinity groups. This will be directed and implemented by the Awards Committee Co-Chairs or SAA.
Awards Committee Co-Chairs Responsibilities
The Awards Committee Co-Chairs are expected to lead the Awards Committee Calendar of Activities every year.
The Awards Committee Co-Chairs are responsible for maintaining regular communication with Subcommittee Chairs, SAA Awards and Governance staff, and SAA Council.
The Awards Committee Co-Chairs should review the Awards Committee microsite and documentation annually and revise, as needed.
The Awards Committee Co-Chairs are expected to support the Subcommittees to ensure all awards are conferred.
The Awards Committee Co-Chairs are responsible for receiving feedback, making revisions, and recommending changes as needed to the SAA Council and staff.
Subcommittee Chairs Responsibilities
Subcommittee Chairs are expected to lead the process for their subcommittee, keep everyone on track, and divide the work as needed.
Subcommittee Chairs should be familiar with the Calendar of Activities, Award Descriptions, and Eligibility and Application requirements.
Subcommittee Chairs should maintain clear and frequent communication with Awards Co-Chairs and subcommittee members.
Provide feedback or reflections to Awards Co-Chairs about the award season process, challenges, wins, or other thoughts.
Subcommittee Members Responsibilities
All Subcommittee Members must be responsive to your Subcommittee Chair’s emails and communications. Ensure that your contact info is up to date on the roster. If you have any issues, contact the Awards Committee Co-Chairs.
Subcommittee Members should be familiar with the Calendar of Activities, Award Descriptions, and Eligibility and Application requirements.
Subcommittee Members evaluate all eligible applications by established deadline(s).
