More (Any?) WiFI Power outlets! Free end enable the Tweetstream! (so valuable for those not here or in other sessions).
I understand the economics but I’d still like wireless!
Wifi pleeeeeease?
Please have wifi and more food/socials
Free Wi-Fi = A+ Second this!
Yes, please free wi-fi!
Would pay $10 a day for wifi if option was open.
Why can’t I get Wi-Fi at the meeting?
Yes, please Wifi in future.
Lacked Wifi totally unaccessible—needs to be part of negotiations. This is something we need to push for. Leverage—we go to a different hotel—make non-negotiable.
When we have Wifi in N.O. use it as an opportunity for dialog about the issue. Also have a sign “brought to you by SAA Office.”
No Wifi=sad archivists
Have WiFi in some areas—cypercafe, certain rooms, lobby spaces
Please choose hotel that offers free WiFi to guests!
Wireless in meeting rooms
Wireless
Please have wifi and more food/socials
It I had a choice between internet access and significantly lower hotel costs, I’d choose the latter
WiFi please
Check hotel reviews/feedback for wireless cell phone connectivity issues, please
A warning about poor cell services would be good
Having wifi in room was good!
Make use of twitter
What if all presentations were pre-recorded, selected by the program committee and viewed before we all showed up? And we need the conference to talk to each other?
RBMS—plenary and breakout sessions MP3, compressed to online
With Wife-Skype a possibility for those speakers at last minutes not able to attend
Offer videoconference access to specific sessions for a “small” fee.
Maybe a conference app for mobile devices
Make sessions available virtually. ACRL Virtual—‘webinar”—menu of selections—fee based
I present for free. Why should people have to pay for a recording?
Online video recordings of sessions for folks who cannot attend.
Can we partner with other organizations to provide virtual conference options.
Mobile App (android & iOS) Not just mobile site, but offline accessible w/ schedule, info about area, etc.
Yes!
Conferences that have Wife IPres, DCC, JCDL
#hashtags for sessions & other events
Go paperless
Publish to PDF two weeks out
Please make recordings free and online. Also videos on YouTube? Photos? Some sort of commons? Need central, free online media repository. Thank you.
Maybe a conference app for mobile devices
Also making materials available online during convention
Please have a good “offline” mobile app for the conference. Last time there was an app it was just a mobile style sheet that still required web access
Don’t email us at the meeting. No WiFi and my SAA email address is my work email that I don’t check while at the conference.
Would love entire program in pdf from for Ipads!!! Yes
Transcribe ALL this and dump into a Google Docs SS
RBMS had little recorders that they send out into the sessions to records sessions. We should post the recordings online for free..
Staggered price options based on distance traveled, e.g. >250 miles, >.500 miles
Government rate at hosting hotel.
I like it. Conference hotel over-priced.
WiFi. Reasonable lodging
Costs too high
Try to make attempts to find cheaper hotels
Fun but too expensive-hotel, big cities
SAA annual meetings are terribly fragmented; for the coming generation of information professionals SAA leadership must consider ways to reduce COSTS.
Affordability & accountability vis a vis finances
Provide some support for attendance at meetings
Meeting useful, parking too expensive
Multiple hotels to defer some costs!
Cheaper hotel room please!
Cheaper registration fee and/or WiFi (where does all the $ go?)
Yes, cheaper
I love the annual meeting. Expense is the one drawback
Staggered price options based on distance traveled, e.g. >250 miles, >.500 miles
More rooms at meeting rate.
Survey attendees on how they got here—1 stop, nonstop, over time, can help get a sense of travel/cost burden.
Every year, post on FB, SAA website what the hotel “charges” for WiFi, coffee, cookies and soft drinks. People will stop whining when they find out.
Great meeting. Cheaper registration for independent archivists would diversify representation!
Please choose locations free of labor disputes
Social/Service projects make them a priority!
Definitely a service project (or 2 or 3) again.
Loved service project!
Hotel amenities
Coffee please!
Screens are too small in some of the rooms. Very hard to see presentations. Otherwise wonderful facilities
More water coolers!
They’re an excellent idea
Roving microphones for questions!
Hand-held mikes for discussion
Build into the contract that the hotel has to keep us moderately warm, not freeze us!
Everyone needs to use the microphone. Need more microphones for audience members
More coffee
Free coffee would be nice or access to more coffee
Mentorship M & G ran out of coffee. Next time chairs can give a count of expected people.
Find a sponsor to provide “free” coffee & tea & healthy snacks
Wonderful meeting! Would like to have microphones for questioners in the sessions.
People who ask questions in sessions that being recorded should be more cognizant of using mikes.—or moderators should be reminded more forcefully to summarize the question.
There is often “sound bleedover” from presentations in other rooms. This can be very distracting to listening to speakers
Outlets!
Tables with chairs in central location, where people gather
Coffee and snacks, please – ditto
Brown bag delivery service for brown bag sessions
Meeting rooms are too long to read screens
Need coffee @ workshop breaks!
Q/A patrons mics midway back room
It should be easier to get a cup of coffee
Outlets for laptops
Too cold in session rooms.
Really need more vegetarian /vegan food options @ hotel YES!
Roving microphones for questions!
Hand-held mikes for discussion
More water coolers!
They’re an excellent idea
Coffee
Need microphones for the audience during Q & A. Having a great educational time, though!
I would pay for box lunches during brown bag events
When recording sessions: provide mics for questions in audience—complex/multi-part questions get lost and moderators can’t be burdened with memorizing and regurgitating these audience questions.
Need better sound in large rooms and floating mikes
“Who’s Here” available some other way than waiting in long line @Cyber Café!
Tell us how the session rooms are laid out before we finish our presentations
More sunny terraces!
Happy to purchase food through SAA for brown Bag lunches—no travel means to find lunch at this (and other) hotels.
I loved the amount of places to sit and gather at this hotel—something to look for in the future.
Hotels with coffee makers in the rooms—a big plus since there’s hardly ever an easy/quick way to get coffee @ SAA hotels (Starbucks=MegaLines!)
I thoroughly enjoyed being on the Host Committee. Thank you!
In presentation rooms—a few rows of tables & chairs in front for people with laptops
Great view, but too cold!
Lots of good nooks & crannies for impromptu gatherings
Call food trucks; especially during the brown-bags.
Tip them off to lots of hungry archivists in need of quick lunches
Fantastic location for an SAA Conference!
Meetings should not be in isolated places, but near places to eat
No grocery store close by—1/2 hour walk, yuck!
Breakfast nearby!
Go to the south, other than NO more than every 15 yrs Fl, GA, MS, TN, KY, SC, NC
This is not hot!
Go somewhere that is not hot! (Vancouver, BC, Seattle, WA, Portland, OR, Portland, ME I like these ideas
Pick locations that might be considered “second tier”. More often than not, they have conference centers that are big enough. And have viable downtowns.
Need low-cost food options within a few minutes, especially for breakfast. Post the closest grocery store.
Choose smaller or different location that are more affordable for us, eg. Buffalo, NY
How about New York City? Or Hawaii?
Look at smaller cities as a venue option. Me too!
Not enough time during workshop break to get food outside hotel
Come to Denver
Come to Denver
Great location x2
It’s great!
Hotel in the city, not a long walk away
Wonderful site!
The food choices are limited—either very expensive, sit-down or Starbucks. It’s hard to grab Breakfast or vegetarian food quickly
Great to be in same hotel as the Packers!
Thank you for another conference west of the Mississippi Jim C. University of Hawaii
Great conference site and programme
I love San Diego
Hotel seemed a bit isolated
Need low-cost food options within a few minutes, especially for breakfast. Post the closest grocery store.
Breakfast nearby!
No grocery store close by—1/2 hour walk, yuck!
Come back to the South East!
I think it should be in San Diego every year
Love the weather!
Great weather! Lovely city
Let’s go to the SWest
Come to San Antonio
What about less expensive cities and places we’ve never been
Cleveland, Cincinnati (1 check mark) St. Louis (2 check marks) Kansas City (2 check marks)
Indianapolis, Denver (4 check marks) Houston, San Antonio (4 check marks) Salt Lake City (2 check marks) Detroit, Phoenix (4 check marks), Tucson (2 check marks), Atlanta (one check) Yeah!! But probably not less expensive, Orlando, Memphis (one check mark) Seattle/Portland (2 check marks), Charlotte
Go to broader range of cities
Are alternate venues a possibility? (partntership with colleges, universities, institutional members?)
RBMS model: Can we stay in college dorms?
Consider a university
Consider a Uni? Cheap dorm housing, wired meeting rooms
Option to stay in college/university dorms (like RBMS mtg)
Are alternate venues a possibility? (partntership with colleges, universities, institutional members?)
Voting on meeting location
Have the meeting on a train of a cruise ship (check mark next to this)
Use a campus for meeting some with dorm option for those who come. Several schools have hotel management programs. Other have no summer classes
Two hotels in a downtown area
Need broader range of places to stay—range of prices—local dorms for students
Spin off all governance functions to a mid-year “business” meeting
Offer one virtual track—primary audience student members and recent grads still looking for work.
Move the Saturday sessions to earlier in the week. I am going to miss some wonderful sessions.
Spin off all governance functions to a mid-year “business” meeting
Offer one virtual track—primary audience student members and recent grads still looking for work.
1-day Unconference format
All-attendee reception
More Dessert!
Reception very nice but not enough dessert
Two Free Dinner events back to back not good!
The desserts ran out fairly early at reception
The outdoor reception was wonderful! Spacious, quiet wonderful
Agree! Much better with open spaces
Love free ice cream
Food at exhibits were too close in time to the reception
Last night’s reception great
Excellent reception!
Reception a bust. Need a local site venue away from the hotel
The reception was amazing!! Thank you
Will miss the museum reception
Reception really cool—people in one place instead of bldg nooks & crannies, although a little challenging once it got dark.
More plant-based vegetarian option @ receptions and happy hours & adequate quantities
I’ve heard many people say that it was strange to have the exhibit hall opening with food right before the all attendee reception. I agree.
A “free” drink ticket (or 2) would be nice at the reception
Want reception to return to interesting museums, h.s. archives, instead of hotel
$40 guest for party was way too much money…and layout was not conducive for mingling and meeting and networking
More outdoor events!
Really enjoyed outdoor reception
Great All-Member reception, but why schedule it right after the awesome Vendor/Exhibit Hall reception? Would prefer one reception on Thursday and the other one on Friday.
Ditto x 2 +1
Open Bar
Exhibit reception and meeting reception on different nights.
The reception was amazing!! Thank you
Excellent reception!
Reception a bust. Need a local site venue away from the hotel
Last night’s reception great
Have different receptions on different days.
Try for outside receptions
Reception Lots of food—good!
Great outdoor reception!
Have enough desserts for everybody!
Don’t have vendors’ opening with food followed by reception with food on the same night.
Clarity on food amount. Is this a meal or a snack? Should I plan for dinner?
I liked the reception on Friday night, at a museum.
Reception on Thursday paid for a guest no one took my ticket so why did I even pay?
The AV Sessions are wonderful!
After 30 years it’s hard to find sessions that interest me
Session on syphilis experiments in Guatemala (101?) was phenomenal
The lightening sessions rocked!
Loved the lightening talks!
Interesting sessions!!
If it’s a how-we-do-it, make it lightening talks -- 5 minutes max, lots of links.
It if’s more exploratory make it 20 minute presentations
More sessions that offer interaction
More lightening sessions. They’re great X2
Have a peer-reviewed paper track so academics and doctoral students can get credit for presenting their research.
Awesome people. Need more info on cultural archives
Try a poster session with digital as a lightening session
Presentations should be capped to 12-15 minutes.
Folks asking questions of panelists etc. should preface their question by saying who they are and where (what institution they are from)
1)Like hotel 2) Would like to see more diverse panels
Learned a lot this week. Linked Data is awesome!!!
Keep Research Forum posters around longer please
Suggest minimum font size for posters!
Whole session model may be broken—panel’chair/3 speakers may be old. What about TED talk model, Pechuakachu
Stick to agenda and keep it snappy!
Please more speakers about e-records!
Bigger font
Would love additional programming on instruction and on research/public services
I love the lightening tracks. But they need those timing lights that they use in Congress
One of the best meetings I’ve been too in a while—learning all the “new” stuff that I’m not using yet and need to be!
Have a peer-reviewed paper track so academics and doctoral students can get credit for presenting their research.
More lightening sessions. They’re great X2
More sessions that offer interaction
Proposal deadlines for the next year are far too early.
I come to SAA to hear case studies/practical advice from colleagues across North America, all in one place—efficient
Please maintain the order of speakers as listed in final program.
Technology—Good selection of sessions on where we (THINK) we are going!
Love the “lightning sessions! AGREE!!
Start morning sessions at 8:30-maybe drop number of latecomers.
Proposal form suggests that there are multiple session formats, but the schedule looks all the same
Individuals should be able to submit papers without being linked to a whole panel—program committee could link “like” papers together
Hate powerpoints
More time for lightning sessions! They’re great with practical info!
Set a minimum font size on powerpoint presentations. (3 checks)
I really like the lightning sessions! (check mark)
Advise lightning talk chairs to view talks ahead for time length and then cut them off it too long
Lightning sessions-fewer per session, more time for Q &A
Moderators: don’t be afraid to cut people off
Please put the student paper session in a prime slot (check mark)
Loved lightning rounds, but don’t have them in 1 hour sessions—to short! (check mark)
At least two panels with juried papers, so that faculty will get credit/funding
Love the lightning sessions (check mark)
More basic sessions/maybe a “basic” track—or SAA should decide whether it wants to appeal to beginning archivists or not.
Lightning talks were cooler than expected!
Enforce the “lightning” in lightning talks- cut them off! X2
We all need to deal with electronic records-BUT Some of the sessions on digital records have become too technical. This is not an IT conference. (I like with a check mark)
I learn a lot about the archive world’s transition to digital formats and new descriptive/metadata standards.
Sessions about “pas to types” [I have no idea what is meant here] belong to a poster or research forum, not general meeting. Especially when it is the whole session just a part of a contextual panel
Would like section/RT’s meetings to be less like sessions and more engaging for membership as a meeting.
My sections Electronic and Description held at same time again.
Two Hour Section Meeting Too Long
I went to a roundtable where the presenters really didn’t prepare anything, which was disappointing. “Winging it “ doesn’t always work.
Round tables are great with engaging program Sections have become stale with too much focus on business meetings and reports
I liked having similar sections at the same time, so it made it easier to plan what to attend
For me Roundable is the major part of SAA Meeting. Been great for professional and leadership development. Hope SAA can keep roundtables supported!
Incorporate the round table meetings better (go back to the old schedule)
Too many round table and section meetings at the same time
Mix-up times for roundtables
Roundtables are too long. I always leave early
Make RT’s shorter. Allow for better scheduling
Regional Roundtables would be awesome. It would be great to help each other with regional preparedness and donor relations
3 roundtables scheduled at the same time
Mix-up times for roundtables
Too many round table and section meetings at the same time
Incorporate the round table meetings better (go back to the old schedule)
Scheduling of RTs and Sections-- hard to get to more than 2. Since so many offer sessions—perhaps have fewer ed sessions and more opps to attend RT & Sections instead—fewer offered same time slot
Section meetings are too long YES!
Central site for all roundtables, etc. Let us know what you are talking about/presenting so non-members might attend as well!
Short & sweet presentations at section meeting. Use your listservs email, newsletters to their full advantage
Advance schedule for sessions/roundtables—business/presentations etc. agenda
RAO’s marketplace thing was great
Sections continue to be problematic. The business portion could be done online. To have more time for content.
Need SNAP RT/meetings@multi times? Couldn’t attend due to other meeting.
Only providing city/mo & restaurants online_NOT HELPFUL
Bring back city tours (walking & otherwise)—great way to meet fellow members, build relationships, create memories of SAA meeting sites.
Why not have a talent show of SAA members in an evening? It might do for 3-4 years. Get Scott Schwartz to MC!
Magnet name holders
Great pre-program blog!
More archivists jamming
2012 local blog was great
Loved the Blog!
Bring back city tours (walking & otherwise)—great way to meet fellow members, build relationships, create memories of SAA meeting sites.
Thanks for the blog posts—very useful!
Same large font for last name as well as first name, please
Bring back the restaurant tours—great way to meet new people.
Vendor booth not open long enough—1 day too short!
SAA does well: vendor space—booths affordable/easy get booth cheaply. Sponsorship rates good. And SAA good @ driving people through the exhibit hall—from OCLC Research
Please schedule office hours at the same time as the exhibitor’s brunch (11:30 rather than 11:00 as it was today)
Exhibitions need to be more than one day
Exhibit “brunch” ended 45 minutes early?
Vendors appreciated that Nancy Beaumont went around & visited with all the vendors.
Please don’t project the SAA Logo behind the podium. When an award is being given, the awardee can’t be seen with the logo shining on them!
It’s good to divide the award announcements across multiple gatherings. Maybe not during food/beverage receptions though; the audience doesn’t pay as much attention. THIS!
I like the awards being broken up, but think having it during the reception didn’t work (too much going on).
The memorial moment during plenary 1 was very wonderful!
Plenary session worked well
Inducting Fellows at plenary, good idea. Well done.
Wonderful – especially the Awards!
Thanks for introducing Fellows at opening plenary.
Awards set up this year—favor fellows at expense of the other awards—needs to be revisited
Hear great things about plenary
Rethink placing of receptions. This year there was one less opportunity for free meal.
Student Awards at Reception did not work well—hard to hear and get attendees attention
Awesome job guys. Food was phenomenal! I loved breaking up awards
Inducting Fellows at plenary, good idea. Well done.
Plenary session worked well
The memorial moment during plenary 1 was very wonderful!
Please find a better time/place to honor students than the reception. Most people couldn’t hear or see (too dark) them and there was too much conversation.
Nice to have the Fellows awards at Plenary
Presidential Address should be by incoming President
Don’t have student awards during the reception—no one paid attention in the dark
This is so unfair to the students.
Student awards should be separate from reception. They should have full attention from their colleagues when they are awarded for their hard work.
Meeting in early August is better than meeting in late August—especially for parents of school-aged children & educators/grad students
Please continue doing the meeting at the beginning of August/ (1st or 2nd week). Later in the month is hard for us at university to attend
Thank you for having the meeting a bit earlier this year. It’s hard when the meeting coincides with the beginning of school and academic start of fall semester. Shery
Move out of August
More sessions during day. Roundtable and section sessions on the same day maybe early in the week
Friday afternoon = BIG break
Friday schedule weird—too light, but Saturdays really heavy. Friday felt empty
More variety in program is a good thing. Ex: 1.5 and 5 hr sessions, moving reception to different evenings.
Have a plenary day or RT/Section day
Sessions need to be better spaced through the four days. Too many at times, none at others?
SAA mid-winter meeting, smaller at smaller cities
Schedule of sessions, other content
Too many conflicts in schedule on the Wednesday…I had to miss my roundtable to take part in an SAA sponsored meeting I couldn’t miss.
Fewer sessions in same time slots and longer time period for sessions (i.e. perhaps shorter breaks, etc)
Likes: open spots on Friday pm to enjoy colleagues and “restup”; to re-engage with sessions on Saturday; Saturday a rich array of topics; good choice of sessions and speakers
Put the Research Forum IN the meeting not isolated way before. Yes!
Mix up the sessions and sections and roundtable meetings. Put committee meetings during the week. Put sections (especially) in the morning slots. More sessions should be held in the afternoon slots. (yeah that)
No 8 am sessions
Sat @ 8 am? Too early x2
Improvement suggestion: Make the program easier to navigate through by categorizing sessions. Other than that, it was a great 1st conference (and probably not my last one)
Improve presentation skills of speakers! Give a workshop and make it required
Anyone from Toastmasters able to assist?
Better speakers—no ums. Need a workshop giving good presentations
Some vetting of speaker qualifications and abilities (ARMA does this).
Presenters need to leave more time for Q/A! Some difference in quality of sessions
Guidelines for proper powerpoint usage—less text!
Improve presentation skills of speakers—workshop? (check mark)
Hard to meet people because of meeting size
I Like the idea of this comment writing
Would love
Everything’s been really good
Let’s be sure to think the organizers!
You have captured us! Thank you
Don’t be afraid to try new things.
Be sure issues of cost and traditional practice don’t constrain your proposals. A lot is possible if you think creatively!
Need employers!
Face to Face is key!!
Career center should have sample cover letters
Pro Football teams should attend all SAA meetings!
How can one comment without any URLs posted or noted on the flyer?
Pretty lanyards!!
The soapbox ~ open forum to express ideas
You can never be everything to everybody so roll with it +1
I think it’s a really strong program this year! X2
Disoriented.
I had a real good time balancing sessions, mtgs, SAA services and socializing. For some reason the meeting felt full, yet relaxed this year. Kudos!
If you have a complaint about a conference, get involved!
Free alcohol
Pitch the whole thing & start over
Been a great conference overall
AMTF members good at staffing desk—good eye contact
Manuscripts Repository Steering committee—how connect people for program dev—will write up and send along—something been working on for the past year
I have been inspired and enriched by the experience. Donna Cary
I know how hard everyone works—especially SAA staff. Thank you. I get a lot out of the meeting. Shery
Transparency of process has greatly improved over the years—organization continues to be more responsive
No free bags!
Let’s meet annually more often
Fix wage inequality
Focus on promoting profession outside of traditional sources
Survey SNAP membership for comments & ideas.
Welcome Orientation about to expect/do @ SAA (Improve)
Mentor program w/seasoned vet. Way to volunteer when new. (Promote more)
SNAP? –assign a student to each session to take notes, talk to the speakers before/after session
We miss Mark. Yes we do!
Time meeting better with airline flights.
Identify a sample set of airports, check for availability of direct flights (maybe all airports near an iSchool?) Boston, DC, RDU, TX. Mich, UCLA, IU…
“Don’t change a thing. I think it is lovely.”
Guidelines not micromanagement. Send info at least a week before
Know the size of your rooms!
Let people know what room size they are going to be in
Thank you AMTF!!
Good music!
My first SAA and a great way to get introduced to and familiar with the profession on a national level. Excellent panels are very welcoming for new members.
Overall a great meeting. Thank you and thank you for listening
SAA>ALA!! (check mark)
“Students comes for educational value”
The Group YOGA next door!
Looking forward to New Orleans. I don’t really like San Diego. Conference was great!!!
It was fun!
As If…What if SAA didn’t exist…?!
More info on mentoring program
We should give a prize to the comment we like the best
Meeting well paced.
Love LAM Awareness (Libraries-Archives-Museums) Would like to see inclusion of History Centers/Historical Societies [Helene Idels]
Would be nice to have more coffee/tea service at other times besides the exhibit hall. Also, sessions this time seem to be scheduled strangely. Last, can we go to the Twin Cities any time soon?
Great scroll!
