SAA Sections are meeting throughout July to share exciting special-interest programming as well as updates on their initiatives. With more than 40 events scheduled through the month, there are so many opportunities to connect with your fellow archives professionals. See the calendar to learn more.

SAA Appointed Groups—boards, committees, task forces, and working groups—will also hold open business meetings throughout July. Anyone interested in learning more about the work of these groups, or considering volunteering for an appointed group in the fall, is welcome to attend! Research and Innovation Wednesdays is a three-part series in July that will introduce attendees to the ways in which SAA supports research and innovation in the profession. The series begins on July 14 with “Introduction to the Components of R&I Supported by SAA,” hosted by SAA’s Committee on Research, Data, and Assessment (CORDA). Join us for brief overviews of initiatives by CORDA (including the new SAA Dataverse), the Research Forum, American Archivist, the SAA Foundation (and its grant program), and the SAA Archives. We’ll also welcome informal updates from SAA component groups on their research activities. You’ll leave this session with a much better idea of how you might engage in research and innovation that will benefit from (or contribute to!) SAA’s efforts.

And be sure to save the dates of Wednesday, July 21, and Wednesday, July 28, 1:00 – 4:30 pm CT, for Parts 1 and 2 of SAA’s Research Forum, “Foundations and Innovations.” The Research Forum is SAA’s annual opportunity to discuss, debate, plan, organize, evaluate, and motivate research projects and initiatives. All SAA component group leaders are invited to attend the 2021 SAA Leadership Orientation and Forum, a three-part interactive forum series that will connect experienced leaders with newer ones to help you gain an understanding of your roles and responsibilities as the leader of a board, committee, working group, task force, or section—and to enhance your effectiveness. Mark your calendar for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, July 27, 28, and 29, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. All SAA leaders are encouraged to attend this free event series!
