Paula De Stefano is the Barbara Goldsmith Curator for Preservation and has been head of the Preservation Department at New York University Libraries since 1988. She served as adjunct faculty for Long Island University, School of Library and Information Science from 1994 to 1997; Pratt University, School of Library and Information Science, Brooklyn, NY, from 1998 to 2001, and has been an adjunct professor in the Archives and Public History program at New York University, where she has taught an introduction to preservation for archives since 1998. She has published articles on topics of importance to library and archives preservation, such as reformatting choices for brittle books, preservation of archival collections, and preservation of non-book and non-print library collections.
Paula has a BA in English literature from Marymount Manhattan College; a Master of Science in library science from Columbia University; a post-graduate certificate in preservation administration from Columbia University; and a post-graduate certificate in archival management from New York University. She is a member of the Society of American Archivists, the Association of Moving Image Archivists, and the American Libraries Association.
