Nancy McGovern

Dr. Nancy Y. McGovern is the Director of Digital Preservation at MIT Libraries. Prior to that, she was the research assistant professor and digital preservation officer at the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) for five years and director of Research and Assessment Services and digital preservation officer at Cornell University Library also for five years. She has focused on digital preservation research and practice since 1986, when she began a decade of service on the senior staff of the Center for Electronic Records at the U.S. National Archives.

McGovern was the electronic records manager at the Open Society Archives in Budapest, Hungary, from 1996 to 1998, and at Audata, a digital services consulting firm in the United Kingdom, from 1998 to 2001. She co-founded the Society of American Archivists' Research Forum in 2007 with Helen Tibbo and the Electronic Records Section in 1994 with Tom Ruller. In addition, she served as co-editor of RLG DigiNews from 2001 to 2006. McGovern completed her PhD on a digital preservation topic through University College London.
