Marcella (Wiget) Huggard

 

Marcella Huggard has over 15 years of experience as a collection manager and archival practitioner. Currently the Hosting Services Onboarding Coordinator with Lyrasis’ Community Supported Technologies and Hosting Services Division, previously Huggard has worked in academia, state government, and local nonprofit historical societies.

From 2015-2023 she was the Manuscripts Coordinator at the Kenneth Spencer Research Library, part of the University of Kansas Libraries. There she oversaw arrangement and description of all manuscript collections, managing a small team of full-time staff and students.

 From 2008-2015 she held various roles with the Kansas State Archives, part of the Kansas Historical Society, including supervising the public records program and working on two National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) grant-funded projects. In those roles she worked with state and local government agencies to update and create new records retention schedule entries, provided records management training, and arranged and described government records with enduring value and manuscript collections following More Product Less Process (MPLP) methodologies. While working at KSHS, Marcella served on SAA’s Reappraisal and Deaccessioning Development and Review Team.

 Marcella has also been an assistant archivist with the Bessemer Historical Society in Pueblo, Colorado, and Curator of Collections at the Reno County Historical Society in Hutchinson, Kansas. She received her bachelor’s in history from Knox College and her Masters in History with a focus on Public History from Colorado State University – Fort Collins. She is a Certified Archivist.
