Vice-Chair/ Chair-Elect Candidate: Sharon Mizota, Production Art Librarian at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Beverly Hills, California)
About Sharon:
I am currently the Production Art Librarian at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, where I am responsible for cataloging original artworks related to film production. I received my MLIS from San Jose State in 2013 and have a background in visual art, with a Bachelor’s and an MFA in Fine Art. I am also a part-time arts writer for the Los Angeles Times and other publications.
My background in art and writing makes me an enthusiastic advocate for quality description and access for visual materials. I also have strong project management experience, initiating a born-digital pilot project and an annual Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Academy. In organizing the Edit-a-thon, I decided to focus on diversity, resulting in many new entries on underrepresented figures. If elected Vice-Chair of this roundtable, I would use these experiences to foster an engaged and inclusive dialogue on important issues related to the documentation and dissemination of our visual histories.
