SAA UX Section 2026 Annual Business Meeting. May 15, 2026.

The Society of American Archivists (SAA) User Experience Section held its 2026 Annual Business Meeting on May 15, 2026. The meeting included section updates, working group presentations, council updates, and presentations from contributors to the upcoming American Archivist UX Special Section issue. Topics discussed included UX research methods, accessibility, discovery systems, institutional archives, and future directions for UX-related programming and community engagement within the archival profession.

Exploratory UX Research at Harvard Library. April 17, 2026.

This 60-minute UX Practitioner Conversation, hosted by the SAA UX Steering Committee and led by Meg McMahon (Harvard Library), introduced participants to exploratory UX research and its application in understanding and improving online special collections discovery. The session focused on how exploratory research methods, including surveys and contextual inquiry, can help surface user needs, clarify complex research behaviors, and inform future design decisions, particularly in environments with multiple discovery systems.

 A UX Journey: Identifying Problems and Solutions and Improving User Experience in Increments. February 21, 2025.  

 This 90-minute, interactive workshop, hosted by the SAA UX Steering Committee and led by Shelby Kroske and Sruthin Gaddam (Michigan State University Libraries), introduces participants to basic UX testing techniques and provides adaptive models for conducting UX studies with limited resources. This workshop is especially geared towards beginner UX practitioners and those just starting their UX journeys, however, participants of all backgrounds and levels of experience are invited to join.
