SNAP Steering Committee Meeting Minutes - 2022/05/12

SNAP Steering Committee 2021-2022

Meeting #8: 12 May 2022

Time: 7pm Eastern; 6pm Central; 5pm Mountain; 4pm Pacific

Attendance via Zoom: Michelle Novak (chair), Marissa Friedman (co-chair), River Freemont (secretary), John Esh (steering committee/web liaison), Lourdes Johnson (steering committee), Leah Tams (senior blog editor), Alexis Bracey (junior blog editor)

  1. Social media

    1. No updates.

  2. Blog team

    1. We’ve had some great posts recently, one from Karlie and one from Nicole. A colleague of Leah’s also put together a post about records and information management (for RIM Month), targeting early career professionals.

    2. No call has been put out for May. It is AAPI heritage month, so we should try to get some content posted around that. Leah might ask around in her network and see if she knows someone to do a post.

    3. Marissa is working with the Diverse Sexualities and Genders Section, and they will have a post to add very soon. Leah would like to have it posted in June, since that’s Pride Month. They have also brought up the idea of doing some kind of blog series, like “Ask a Queer Archivist!”

  3. Programming updates

    1. Michelle and Marissa are planning a panel presentation for early June. It will feature a few different business archivists, with various levels of experience. Let Marissa know if you’d like to host!

    2. Michelle is working with a colleague on the idea of doing a copyright webinar. It would be intro level and targeted towards librarians and archivists.

  4. Chair/Vice-Chair updates

    1. Elections!

      1. Everyone needs to renominate themselves for their current positions, if their term is up. In the past, folks have just continued on if they wished, but this isn’t how SAA wants us to do things. So, nominate yourself!

      2. From now on we will only have elections once a year (in July). This means only one onboarding per year, and will make everything simpler. If your term was due to end in January, it’ll now go until August.

      3. Election results will be announced after the annual meeting, probably via blog post.

    2. Annual meeting!

      1. Friday, July 15th at 2pm Eastern (11am Pacific). It will be virtual.

    3. Collaboration with Archival Workers Fund.

      1. Reach out to Marissa if you’re interested in working on a survey of student labor during the pandemic.

  5. Student chapters

    1. Karlie had Zoom troubles and was locked out of the meeting, so she provided her updates in the agenda.

      1. The joint-review of the contact sheet is done. She has received a few updates directly via email, and added them all to the sheet.

      2. The next step is meeting with SAA.

  6. Next meeting

    1. Thursday, June 2nd, 7pm Eastern/4pm Pacific.
