SNAP Steering Candidates: 2026 Election

VICE CHAIR/CHAIR-ELECT

  • Katelyn Landry-Carranza: Katelyn Landry-Carranza is an early career archivist who is passionate about supporting emerging archives professionals, particularly those from BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities which are underrepresented in the archives field. As a Texas native and recent alumna of the Archives and Public History MA program at New York University, she is familiar with navigating the gap between archival education and the job market. She is especially attentive to the challenges that emerge when navigating regional, cultural, and institutional differences as a new professional. She is currently an archivist at the Rosenberg Library in Galveston, Texas. After serving as a Member-At-Large, blog co-editor, and social media chair for the SNAP Steering Committee in 2025-2026, she is excited to continue her service to SNAP by supporting diverse opportunities for emerging archivists across the nation to learn, connect with others, boost confidence, and bridge the gap between graduate school and the GLAM job market.

SECRETARY

  • Maya Scheirer: As a third semester MLIS student, I am so happy I joined SAA and the SNAP Steering Committee as an early professional and student because it has given me a new network of professionals and like-minded individuals. As Secretary, I aim to continue documenting our meetings and managing the microsite as I have done for the past year. I look forward to collaborating with other members of the steering committee to provide programs, news and updates to SNAP members and to continue uplifting the archives and libraries professions.

MEMBERS-AT-LARGE

in alphabetical order

  • Rebecca Billings: My name is Rebecca Billings, and I am an MLIS graduate student at San José State University. I am an active member of SAA and currently serve as SAA Student Chapter Vice-Chair. I am on track to graduate in May, 2026 with my MLIS and a Digital Asset Management Certificate. After graduation I plan to pursue a role as a digital archivist.  I am seeking a position on the SAA-SNAP Steering Committee as a meaningful way to deepen my involvement and contribute to the professional community. I am entering the archival field as a second career. I bring prior experience in technology, people and project management. These experiences have prepared me to collaborate effectively, manage complex initiatives, and support group goals. I also have a strong background in nonprofit work, including board service, volunteering, and organizing community-focused programming and outreach. I feel strongly about supporting and uplifting SNAP members as we embark on our new professions.  In my previous career, I mentored students and early career individuals as a coach and internship coordinator. I continue that commitment in my role as SAASC Vice-Chair, where I focus on fostering connection, learning, and shared growth. I believe that strong professional communities benefit everyone, and I am eager to contribute my skills, perspective, and enthusiasm to the SAA-SNAP Steering Committee.
  • Kit Huff: My name is Kit and I am a current MLIS student at Dominican University working towards a certificate in Archives and Cultural Heritage Resources and serve as the Vice President of our student chapter of the Society of American Archivists. In my position, I reach out to various archives, special collections, historical societies, former students and more to find archivists interested in talking to our members about their day to day workloads and any advice they can provide. This semester alone we have met with a researcher who discussed how archives assist her work, a corporate archive, a public archive, an all-digital archive, a historical society, and a rare book auction company. For the ease of events I create calendars, sign up forms, interest emails, organize our attendance spreadsheets, coordinate with our hosts and create weekly and monthly newsletters to send to our entire school at large to garner more interest in the archival sciences! In the interest of creating community, I have also begun meeting weekly at our school library both in-person and on zoom as a way to create more interaction between students who have expressed a disconnect due to the proliferation of asynchronous classes. I have greatly enjoyed my time so far in my student chapter of SAA and I am very interested in this opportunity on the steering committee. I hope that I can learn from those with more experience and am excited at the prospect of adding my expertise in a student chapter to the SAA-SNAP Steering Committee.
  • Morgan Smith: Hey y’all! My name is Morgan Smith (they/them). I am an incoming MLIS student at the University of Iowa, with a graduate assistant position in the University’s Archives. I currently work in Grinnell College’s Special Collections and Archives, have extensive digital humanities experience, have volunteered with the LGBTQ Iowa Archives and Library, and am an advisor to the Union of Grinnell Student Dining Workers on records management. As I begin my graduate journey, I am excited to bring my experience in labor rights, diversifying collections and communities, and advocacy to representing all SNAP members as a steering committee member. I am passionate about advocating for students and new archival professionals, both as one myself and someone who cares deeply about my peers and the future of our profession. As the former President of the Union of Grinnell Student Dining Workers (the largest independent labor union in Iowa), I am particularly concerned with exploring how SAA/SNAP can promote more equitable labor practices for new professionals and the wider field, and support students and new professionals in advocating for themselves in that space. I also bring a deep commitment to collaboration and effectiveness in my service, something developed across many university committees and my current role on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Conservation and Preservation Consortium. I look forward to getting to be more involved with SNAP overall, and getting to connect with and support y’all!
