Introducing 2018 Junior Co-Chair candidates

Candidates Information for the 2018 STHC Section Elections

The Junior Co-Chair is elected annually by the section membership for a two-year term, serving in year one as Junior Co-Chair and in year two as Senior Co-Chair.  Electronic balloting will begin in early July and it will be conducted by SAA staff. Election results will be announced before the annual meeting in August.

Alison Oswald

Biography

Alison Oswald is currently an archivist in the Archives Center , National Museum of American History’s. She is responsible for processing and acquiring invention-related and science and technology collections, coordinating internships and a Travel to Collections Awards Program (specifically for using invention, science and technology collections), and participating in public programs and exhibition work. Her exhibitions include co-curator of Doodles, Drafts, and Designs: Industrial Drawings from the Smithsonian (2001-2005); contributor Tools Extending Ourselves (2014); and co-curator of Inventive Minds (2015-). Alison has a strong interest in arrangement and description, encoded archival description (EAD), access to the primary materials, and mentoring and fostering budding archivists through internships. She is a member of the Society of American Archivists and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference and holds a Master of Library Science from the State University of New York at Albany, a Master of Science, Historic Preservation from Ball State University, and a Bachelor of Arts, History from Saint Bonaventure University.

Interest Statement

I am interested in the Junior Co-Chair position to advocate for and collaborate with repositories that collect, preserve and provide access to STEM-related collections. Working with the current Chair and STCH members, I would work to continue to produce and share resources for and promote professional discussion about science, technology and healthcare topics

Jennifer Ulrich

Biography

Jennifer Ulrich currently serves as Technical Services Archivist at the Augustus C. Long Health Sciences Library at Columbia University, beginning in April 2016. Previously, she has held positions as a professional archivist at The New School, the New York Public Library, and the Columbia University Archives in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library. She received an MLIS from the University of Texas at Austin. She has served on the Programming Committee for the Archivists’ Roundtable of Metropolitan New York and is currently a member of Archivists and Librarians in the History of the Health Sciences (ALHHS) and the Medical Library Association (MLA).

Interest Statement

I am interested in collaborating with peer institutions and learning from colleagues with the goal of promoting and supporting the mission of the Science, Technology and Health Care section, and that of the greater SAA mission.
