2011 Preservation Section Elections

 

The Preservation Section is conducting its elections electronically this year in early July. The section membership will elect a new Vice Chair/Chair-Elect, Nominating Committee member, and Steering Committee member-at-large.  

 

Aimée Primeaux

Aimée Primeaux is a Preservation Program Officer at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in College Park, MD, where she manages records emergency management and preservation policy for NARA. Previously, she worked as a Preservation Consultant in Arlington, Mass., and was the Project Manager for the Northeast Document Conservation Center’s COSTEP (Coordinated Statewide Emergency Preparedness) project. She served as the Coordinator for the American Institute for Conservation’s AIC-CERT (Collections Emergency Response Teams), and taught both online and live workshops on preservation and emergency preparedness, as well as Preservation Management at Simmons College’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science. Prior to her work as a consultant, she was the Special Projects Coordinator and Field Service Representative for the Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) in Andover, Massachusetts.

She has been a member of SAA since 2004, and has served on the Preservation Section as Co-Chair of the Education Committee since 2008. She has an M.L.S. in Library and Information Science and an M.A. in American History from Simmons College in Boston, as well as a B.A. in English Literature from Millsaps College in Mississippi.

 

Greg Schmidt

Greg Schmidt has been involved in preservation for 19 years.  Prior to earning his MLIS in 2007, Greg was the head of the preservation and processing unit at Auburn University Libraries.  Following his MLIS, which included archival coursework, Greg was appointed as Special Collections Librarian and preservation officer for Auburn University Libraries.  As faculty at AU Libraries, Greg has published articles and presented workshops on disaster preparedness and on manuscript collections reappraisal.  In 2009, Greg was elected to serve as Vice President of the Society of Alabama Archivists (SALA).   Following his term as VP, he was elected in 2010 to serve as President of SALA.  Greg is active as a trainer in the multi-state Archival Training Collaborative (archivaltraining.org), which offers low-cost archival workshops to staff at small institutions in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
