Laura Uglean Jackson
Vice Chair/Chair-Elect
Laura Uglean Jackson
Digital Archivist
Denver Museum of Nature & Science
Thank you for considering me for the position of Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect in the Museum Archives Section. As Digital Archivist at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, I am responsible for overseeing all aspects of physical and digital archival collections including standardizing procedures and creating efficient workflows. Additionally, I help lead the selection and implementation of a new digital asset management system for the Museum’s science and collections units. Although I am relatively new to museum archives, I have been an archivist and active in SAA for 15 years. Throughout my career, I have gained extensive experience in chairing professional groups, organizing meetings, and leading various projects and initiatives. If elected as Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect, I am committed to providing valuable resources to section members, such as continuing the pop-up presentations and the MAS newsletter. Moreover, I am eager to explore additional topics such as DEAI in museum archives, advocacy, and collections management.
A bit more about my background: I began my career at the University of Wyoming’s American Heritage Center (AHC) on a grant-funded reappraisal and deaccessioning project. This led to a permanent position on the AHC faculty as a processing archivist and the university archivist. From 2014-2017, I was the Assistant University Archivist at the University of California Irvine and then was the Archives and Special Collections Librarian at the University of Northern Colorado until July 2022. I have a BA in Art History and MIS from Simmons University. I am a leading expert in archival reappraisal and deaccessioning and have also published and presented on born-digital processing, backlog management, and collection development. Within SAA I’ve served on the Acquisitions and Appraisal Section, the Technical Subcommittee on Guidelines for Reappraisal and Deaccessioning, and the 2021 Program Committee. I’m also an active member in my regional organization, SRMA, and serve on the Colorado Historical Records Advisory Board.

Archivist
National Gallery of Art
My name is Kelly Schulz, and I am currently an archivist at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, where I assist with internal and external reference requests, collection processing, and provide administrative support. Previously, I was the assistant archivist at the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center (2020-2022) and digital archivist and administrative assistant at the Chicago Dance History Project (2019). I have also held internships at The Newberry Library, Art Institute of Chicago, and Pritzker Military Museum & Library. I received my BFA in Historic Preservation from the Savannah College of Art and Design (2013) and MSLIS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2018).
As an early career professional, I look forward to becoming involved with SAA and the Museum Archives Section. I think contributing to the creation and publication of the section newsletter will be a great way to connect with current members, learn about issues unique to museum archives, and continue to grow in my position. I appreciate the consideration
