Special MARS Election Notice Candidate(s) Statements: Secretary Position

Thank you to all who considered standing as a candidate for standing in the special 2022-2023 Military Archives Section election for the 2022-2023 cycle. Due to a rules matter for section officials, the Military Archives Section is holding a special election for the 2022-2023 cycle for one candidate for the position of Secretary. This position will serve for two years from 2022-2024. We previously had former MARS secretary Amy Mondt filling in as Secretary until we resolved a matter involving the length of service terms from several years ago when MARS changed the length of service for elected steering committee positions.

Please take some time to review the candidate statements and get to know them so you can make an informed choice.

You will be voting for:

    One Secretary for a two-year term (2022-2024)

The current 2022-2023 MARS Steering Committee is composed of: chair Cara McCormick, who was elected as the Vice Chair/Chair-Elect in 2021; vice chair/chair-elect Beth Ann Koelsch, who was elected to this position in 2022; and communication liaison Matthew Peek, who began his two-year term in 2021.

Ballots will be managed by SAA staff through their approved surveying system, with the election voting to be open soon, closing at the end of day with the soon-to-be-established date (please vote by 5PM EST just to be safe in case something happens with the link!). As we currently only have one candidate for the position of Secretary, you are welcome to submit write-in candidates for consideration.

This year's candidate(s) for Secretary are

Name: Jennifer Milani

Job Title and Institution: Archivist, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

Short Bio:

Jennifer Milani has been the Archivist at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum since 2016. In this position, she is responsible for the archives and photographs in the collection, as well as aiding other departments access the collection through research and exhibitions. She has previously worked in several historic homes, public libraries, and historical societies.

Brief Candidate Statement: I am eager to become more involved in the Military Archives Section community as it has always been a great resource to me as a lone arranger at a military focused museum. While I have not served on a SAA steering committee before, I have served on a public library board, where I often took minutes and brought my own experience in the field to help make decisions for the community. As Secretary of MARS, I hope to help the community continue to come together and support each other in this field.
