2013 participants
We are happy to share the results of the 2013 Jump In initiative. We had twenty-three repositories submit essays documenting their survey work, twenty-three repositories that embarked on the process of managing born-digital records. Congratulations to all of the individuals and repositories that participated this year. Getting started can be the hardest part.
As you can see from the essays, this is only the beginning. The Manuscript Repositories Section is looking forward to helping these institutions maintain their momentum and helping others to get started. We will be looking closely at these essays to see what worked and what didn’t work this year. We will also hold a panel discussion of Jump In participants at our section meeting in New Orleans (Friday, August 16, 12:30-2:30). Following the evaluation of this year’s process, the steering committee of the Section will make plans for the next phase of this initiative. Look for an announcement in August or September.
The steering committee of the Section would like to thank Ricky Erway and her advisory team who put together the OCLC report, “You’ve Got to Walk Before You Can Run: First Steps for Managing Born-Digital Content Received on Physical Media,” which served as a major inspiration for this initiative. We would also like to thank Nancy Beaumont, the staff at SAA, and our Council liaison Bill Landis for all the support and assistance they gave us as we launched this initiative.
