Linda Barrett, CA
Archivist, Fort Worth Library Archives
Professional Experience: Manuscripts Archivist, Fort Worth Library Archives, City of Fort Worth, Texas 2014-present; Interim City Archivist 2014-2015 (8 months)
Education: MLIS, University of North Texas, 2014
Professional Activities: Society of American Archivists: Interim Chair, Local Government Records Round Table, 2016
Statement of Interest: The City of Fort Worth has a robust records management program that was the impetus for the deposit of much of the city records currently in the Archives, but much work is needed to establish and maintain a working relationship with various city departments on the part of the Archives, as well. It was for this reason that I became active in the Local Government Records Roundtable of the Society of American Archivists. I volunteered to serve on the Steering Committee of the roundtable, and subsequently was offered an opportunity to fill an unexpected void in the leadership of the roundtable. I think that communication and collaboration between local government archivists can be a great asset as we grapple with similar issues. During my time as a Steering Committee member and as interim chair I have seen that the roundtable is not as active as is necessary to fulfill its mission as a “forum for dialogue among [local government] archivists.” I seek to work with the Steering Committee and roundtable members to help the group become the useful and inspiring tool it was envisioned as.
